About us
The NDSU Research Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit organization established to support North Dakota State University. The Research Foundation was developed to provide private support to NDSU by protecting, adding value to, and commercializing intellectual property developed through research activities at the university. By commercializing intellectual property, the foundation creates resources that are returned to individual inventors and to the university to promote continued research.

‘ND Dawn’ yellow pea was the first field pea developed by North Dakota State University and was released by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station in 2020. The variety was derived from a cross of DS Admiral/PS0010836, with DS Admiral being the industry standard for yellow peas. ND Dawn has high yield potential in ND environments and produces a very uniform round seed. It’s seed yield outperforms cultivars such as CDC Golden, CDC Striker and Aragorn. It has total protein content of 24.1% which is ideal for processors to get premium price for high-protein peas. ‘ND Dawn’ is exclusively licensed to North Dakota Crop Improvement & Seed Association (NDCISA), please contact them to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gbY3r4tN Click here to check out other NDSU pulse varieties: https://lnkd.in/gZKW8-SP #NDSUAgriculture #Agriculture #Farming #Pea

‘ND Spilde’ is a spring oat developed by North Dakota State University and released by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station in 2023. It has good yield potential, low proportion of thin kernels, unique crown rust resistance and good test weight. The large white kernels with a low proportion of thin kernels should be attractive to the oat milling industry. ‘ND Spilde’ was named in honor of Dr. Leroy Spilde, who had a long career at NDSU serving as the director of the Agronomy Seed Farm for many years and then as director of the Foundation Seedstocks Program. ‘ND Spilde’ is exclusively licensed to North Dakota Crop Improvement & Seed Association (NDCISA), please contact them to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gbY3r4tN Click here to check out other NDSU oat varieties: https://lnkd.in/g24-hQQT #NDSUAgriculture #Agriculture #Farming #Oats

Congratulations!
Dean Webster, professor and chair of the NDSU Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials materials department has been named one of 170 Fellows for 2024 by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Recognized globally as a pioneer in his field, Webster has secured significant funding from agencies like the Office of Naval Research (ONR). He has nurtured a long-standing research partnership in response to the U.S. Navy’s need for improved and non-toxic anti-fouling coatings. His research has resulted in novel inventions of coatings having hydrophobic and amphiphilic surfaces that have revolutionized marine coatings by improving their anti-fouling and, in addition, anti-icing properties. Congratulations to Dr. Webster on this well-deserved honor! https://lnkd.in/g863wV6t North Dakota State University College of Arts & Sciences at NDSU #research #coatings #polymericmaterials #antifouling #antiicing #hydrophobicresearch #marinecoatings

Researchers at the NDSU Hettinger REC are collaborating on a project to restore native plants and create a living prairie roof at the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. By studying and propagating native seeds, NDSU researchers are helping to preserve the region's unique biodiversity. This project is more than just a beautiful addition to the library; it's a vital step in grassland conservation. By understanding and utilizing local ecotypes, NDSU's research can have a significant impact on the future of North Dakota's agriculture and landscape. NDSU scientists have developed plant oil-based reactive diluents for coating and composite applications that possess both low viscosity and high reactive functionality. With these improved characteristics, these plant oil-based materials eliminate or reduce the need to be blended with petrochemicals thereby increasing the bio-based content of the product, which is environmentally more desirable. This technology is the subject of the Issued US Patent 9,834,626 and is available for licensing/partnering opportunities. To learn more about the technology, contact us at 701.231.6681. ‘ND Stampede’ is a hard-red spring wheat developed by North Dakota State University and released by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station in 2024. Compared with ‘Faller’, it has similar yield and improved straw strength, higher protein, shorter height, earlier heading date, greater leaf rust resistance, and superior end use quality. It also has excellent milling and baking quality. ‘ND Stampede’ is exclusively licensed to North Dakota Crop Improvement & Seed Association (NDCISA), please contact them to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gbY3r4tN Click here to check out other NDSU wheat varieties: https://lnkd.in/gHtGpaVm #NDSUAgriculture #Agriculture #Farming #Wheat

Sophie Viger, an North Dakota State University mechanical engineering major with a biomedical engineering minor, has been a part of a research team that seeks to prevent infection and provide pain relief for knee joint replacement patients. Sophie has had the chance conduct research at an undergrad level because of support of programs like the Undergraduate Research Fund. Empowering students to develop critical thinking and research skills will lead our students to muliple pathways of discovery and will yield great results down the line. Please consider making a donation to this fund during #NDSUGivingDay and help our students become tomorrow's rockstar researchers! https://lnkd.in/gM8PUQuv

Professor of NDSU - Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) Mijia Yang has developed a snow fence that includes integrated solar panels. His work accomplishes both tasks of reducing snow build up and generating electricity. This is the type of idea that results from giving our researchers the time they need to do what they do best and that's what the Transformative Research Leaders Fund is all about. Please consider making a donation to this fund during #NDSUGivingDay and help our researchers deliver that next great idea! https://lnkd.in/gM8PUQuv

Check out our Royal Splendor®! Fit for royalty, this regal Norway spruce has bright green, semi glossy needles year round with upswept branches. It has a perfect narrowly-pyramidal growth habit and does not have the weeping secondary branches typical of the species. A hardy specimen, Royal Splendor® would make an excellent landscape tree in more open areas or as a nice upright screening tree. It’s also deer resistant and has a high level of resistance to needle cast disease! Don’t miss out on this beautiful, majestic tree. Please contact info@ndsurf.org if you’re a nursery interested in a non-exclusive license.
