DOT has announced the Drug and Alcohol Testing Rates for 2025. 💠 Only the Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug testing rate has changed from 25% to 50%. PHMSA does not conduct random alcohol testing. 💠 The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has maintained testing rates at 50% for drugs and 10% for alcohol, as has the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). 💠 The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has remained at 25% for drugs and 10% for alcohol as has the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Covered Service and Maintenance of Way. 💠 FRA Mechanical workers remained at 50% for drugs and 25% for alcohol as that section of the FRA is still establishing their positive percentage numbes.   New agencies or sections of agencies begin their testing percentages at 50% for drugs and 25% for alcohol; that agency is then monitored over the course of a two year period and rates are increased or decreased (i.e. lowered to as low as 25% for drugs and 10% for alcohol) if positive percentage rates exceed or don't exceed 1%. A recent surprise 5-day Hazmat inspection blitz by CVSA resulted in 4,000 inspections with nearly six hundred out-of-service violations. Most violations were for shipping papers and loading/securement violations. The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has been issuing its annual report for 20 years with the help of surveys from the American Trucking Associations (ATA) and its federal partners in the 50 State Trucking Associations (STA). This information has been utilized by state DOTs to make informed decisions and address and monitor concerns by motor carriers, drivers, and industry suppliers.   In 2024, the top industry concerns included: 💠Economy 💠Trucking Parking 💠Lawsuit Abuse Reform 💠Insurance Cost/Availability 💠Driver Compensation 💠Battery Electric Vehicles 💠CSA 💠Detention/Delay at Customer Facilities 💠Driver Shortage 💠Driver Distraction In addition to identifying the top industry issues, ATRI also offers potential solutions to address these issues.
