Jim Martin is a clinical pharmacist at Neighborhood Health Center. He recently had the opportunity to share his knowledge in a statewide panel discussion hosted by Community Health Care Association of NYS on the use of statins. At the session, Jim talked about ways a clinical pharmacist can support providers and patients with statin therapy such as through drug choice, dosing, patient education, and ongoing monitoring. We strive to be healthcare innovators and leaders. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Jim!

There's a reason health centers have long had bipartisan support. Health centers welcome everyone whether you live in a red state, blue state, or somewhere in between. Health centers are the primary care providers for one in 10 Americans. Neighborhood Health Center's President & CEO Joanne Haefner recently joined other health center leaders and the Community Health Care Association of NYS in Washington, DC to meet with staffers from the offices of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Rep. Tim Kennedy, and Rep. Nick Langworthy to ensure they understand the importance of health centers. We are crucial for making America healthy again. Stand with health centers! #valuechcs

Meeting our patients where they are. Neighborhood Health Center's 'Health in Motion Mobilt Unit' got its start in 2019\ to bring healthcare services to students at Buffalo Public School System. The bus now serves people at community events too, but meeting students where they are -- at school -- and providing them with high quality care remains a priority. Staffed by a Neighborhood medical provider, nurse, patient service representative, and community health worker, the mobile unit provides well child checks, sick visits, immunizations, health education, risk prevention, and more. Pictured is some of our mobile unit team prepping to care for students at Lovejoy Discovery School last month. #community

February is Black History Month. Thank you American Red Cross of Western New York for inviting us to your Sickle Cell Initiative event. While sickle cell disease affects people across the world of all backgrounds, the greatest number of affected people in the U.S. are those with African ancestry, according to the Red Cross. When individuals who are Black donate blood, it helps ensure closely matched blood products are available for patients in need. Click the link to find a blood drive near you. We're hosting one at Neighborhood Health Center Mattina (300 Niagara St) on March 28. https://lnkd.in/ebwyUut #community

A very important Hill Day. I’m here representing Neighborhood Health Center of WNY, Inc. with many other health centers from Community Health Care Association of NYS and National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). 1 in 10 Americans and 1in 8 New Yorkers dependent on us. #PIFORUM25 #welcometoneighborhood
It's Hill Day! Hundreds of Community Health Center (CHC) leaders are meeting with their elected officials to share why CHCs are valuable to our communities. CHCs provide effective, affordable, and comprehensive primary care to over 32.5 million people—about 1 in 10 Americans—in the communities with the greatest need across our nation. #PIForum25

Stand with health centers! Neighborhood's President & CEO Joanne Haefner joined other health centers from the Community Health Care Association of NYS (CHCANYS) and National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) for Hill Day in Washington, DC. One in 10 Americans and 1 in 8 New Yorkers depend on health centers for their care. Joanne and other leaders got to meet with Catherine Paul from Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's office, McKayla Mulhern from Rep. Tim Kennedy's office, and Allen Garnes from Rep. Nick Langworthy's office. Joanne is pictured here (center) at Rep. Langworthy's office with leaders from The Chautauqua Center, Universal Primary Care, Trillium Health, and CHCANYS. Health centers have an important role to make America healthy again. Please continue to stand with us! #valuechcs

We are your neighbors. Our “I am Neighborhood” series gives you a look at what Neighborhood Health Center is all about through the eyes of the people who work here. Kaylee Klee was in an abusive relationship with her child’s father. Worried for her safety and that of her child, they had to leave their apartment and ultimately became homeless. It wasn’t Kaylee’s first time experiencing homelessness. She’d been through it at times with her family growing up. To get housing assistance, she knew she needed to get a job. Kaylee had been a patient of Neighborhood Health Center for years, and Neighborhood had previously helped her family during periods of homelessness. So, she decided to apply for a job at Neighborhood. Kaylee says getting hired at Neighborhood was life-changing and she credits it with helping her get where she is today – in an apartment, with her child and family, with food on their table. She initially worked as a medical assistant at Neighborhood, which Kaylee says was rewarding, but becoming a community health worker was always in her sights. She wants to help people who are experiencing similar hardships to what she faced, both growing up and in recent years. “Now in my position, I can actually give patients the resources they need, such as a haven house for domestic violence victims, or give them assistance through application processes if they need that extra help,” said Kaylee. Her lived experiences are a valuable asset for understanding what patients are going through. With the support of her supervisors at Neighborhood, Kaylee will also be going back to school for additional training in advocating for those who’ve experienced domestic violence. “I feel like I am making people know that it is safe. Safe to come here [Neighborhood] and safe to ask for help.” #WelcometoNeighborhood

Thank you New York State Department of Health and Upstate NY Black and Latino Pride for hosting a community listening session at Neighborhood Health Center Mattina on the topic of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis). PrEP is a medication that can help prevent HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection in people who are at high risk of being exposed to the virus. The discussion focused on PrEP barriers, accessibility, and education. Pictured are Sean Ball and Antione Holmes from NYSDOH's Office of Planning and Community Affairs, Tajé Jenkins-Jones, founder of Upstate NY Black & Latino Pride, and Neighborhood's Director of Community Health, Elise Robinson.
