About us

Neighborhood House has been and continues to be a welcoming presence for thousands of refugees, immigrants and others in transition or crisis. Our organization has become a full-service hub for those seeking assistance with basic needs, from food to housing, as well as helping create future opportunities through family coaching and education programming. From our headquarters on the West Side of St. Paul, Neighborhood House has supported people from over 50 different cultural backgrounds and nationalities over the decades, nimbly adapting to the rapidly changing needs of the individuals, families, and communities we serve. Our integrated approach to programming recognizes the wholeness of every person’s life and considers aspects of each individual’s needs and well-being so that we can serve every member of a family as they build strength and stability for the future. Our participants are immigrants, refugees, and long-time residents facing challenging situations. Of the approximately 14,000 people we serve each year, more than 90% live at or below the poverty level, over 90% are minority, and roughly 75% speak a native language other than English at home. Many participants return to the organization as volunteers, donors, or staff, paying the mission forward. You can work toward breaking the cycle of poverty as a participant, volunteer, or donor. When you partner with Neighborhood House, you make a valuable difference in our community. We invite you to become part of our neighborhood tradition and local history.

  • We welcomed Governor Walz and the First Lady to Neighborhood House! Governor Walz announced that $5 million of remaining ARPA funds will be dedicated to use by food shelves across the State to help alleviate food insecurity too many families are facing. In 2024, Neighborhood House distributed nearly 980,000 pounds of food to over 6,500 families. To put that into perspective, in 2023, we distributed just over 665,000 pounds of food to 4,600 families. That’s a 47% increase in just one year – an increase that is alarming.
