Last year, NEOO completed a feasibility study (Pre-planning, Design, and Visioning) for the Margaret Walker Center at Jackson State. This project holds a special place in our hearts because Jackson State is an integral part of NEOO’s origin story. It was the training ground and alma mater for four members of the NEOO family: Co-founder and CEO D’Angelos Svenkeson, Senior Economic Advisor Christina Berry, Senior Urban Design Advisor Marlin King Jr., and our newest addition, Market Director for Planning and Research Alysia Osborne, AICP. The center will serve as an archive, museum, and event space honoring the life and legacy of poet, educator, and activist Margaret Walker. This project wouldn’t have been possible without the leadership of Dr. Robert E. Luckett, director of the Margaret Walker Center, the input, insight, and energy of JSU stakeholders, and continued support from the Mellon Foundation. NEOO partners developed the design concept for the building in collaboration with Architect Vernell Barnes. Yesterday we celebrated the graduates of the Ramsey County 2024 Emerging and Diverse Developers Program! They did the hard work of showing up. Buying in. And building the capacity of themselves and their fellow cohort members to accomplish our goal of building accessible, safe, affordable housing and community-oriented infrastructure in Ramsey County. We’re proud of the coalition work Ramsey County and NEOO Partners has been able to accomplish in the last two years.
