College projects can make or break your CV shortlisting! Projects can be game-changers for your career! They don't just build skills—they open doors to opportunities you never expected. If you're still on the fence about starting a college project, here’s why you shouldn’t wait: 1. Build an impressive portfolio- It's a great way to showcase your skills and creativity to potential employers. I've had 15 minute conversions with interviewers solely based on my college projects! 2. Network like a pro- You get a chance to know about the professor's research and industry interests as well as get introduced to a whole new world of opportunities! 3. Sharpen your problem-solving abilities- Projects introduce you to new ways of approaching challenges. They expose you to diverse industry domains and can even lead to stellar letters of recommendation (LORs). The academic structure at BITS PILANI also allows you to convert projects into disciplinary electives, which is a cherry on top! This flexibility not only enriches your learning experience but also enhances your academic profile. What projects are you considering to take your skills and career to the next level? cc: Anurag Saxena #growth #resume #projects

  • Every college should have a 0% attendance policy. - Adit Sreenivasan, one of the youngest LinkedIn Top Voices Here's why: You learn more OUTSIDE the classroom, not inside. Most of the good things that have happened to me, are because I explored my interests OUTSIDE of classes. Be it winning goodies from WorldQuant, becoming a LinkedIn Top Voice, or even becoming a venture capital scout with 2am VC. Here's why being out of the classroom can work in your favor: • If you don't have the burden of attending classes, your mind is free to explore random domains and fields of interest. • Knowing that you don't have to meet a minimum criteria for attendance gives you the time and mental space to think creatively about other things. • While classes help you build discipline and consistency, they're probably not the best place to spend your 20s. • In fact, the 0% attendance policy might be one of the reasons behind the unicorns, creators and other success stories from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. In the years I've been at BITS, I've explored quant finance, management consulting, venture capital, ghostwriting and so much more. I must admit, even though there's 0% minimum attendance, bunking classes is a big gamble. If you don't do something useful in that time, it can go quite dark from there. But in my case, it paid off. My aim with this post is not to offend or criticize, but to simply explain why this is a boon for me, and could be a boon for millions of students worldwide. It will pay off. cr: Adit Sreenivasan

"I RAN AWAY from electronics in my first year, only to understand its actual potential, which CHANGED my life and career." - Manas Tripathi Every student, regardless of the college they are at, needs opportunities to prove themselves. But the problem is, in India, this is how most students choose their branch: They observe what their friends and other classmates are picking. They are heavily affected by fake social media experts. They believe that whatever is trending is their passion. They are influenced by the opinions of society. Let me tell you my personal experience. ALL of my first year friends who took computer science, NONE of them have done any internship (and they are in their 4th year now scared of not getting a job). I am not saying that computer science doesn't have opportunities. The issue is that none of my friends have the necessary skills to compete in the difficult employment market. I don't hate my friends but this is the reality . They used to scare me by saying things like, "You won't get a job if you don't know how to code." WHAT IF the thing you are passionate about and the thing you are good at are different?? BUT for the students in core branches, IT'S YOUR TIME AGAIN. Choose something that allows you to survive. Don't fall behind everyone. You do not know what they are good at. Be selfish about your career. Always do your own research before choosing anything. International Internships can help you stand out. BUT, choosing the appropriate mentor and program is also important. Analyse all rejections and leverage the power of networking. Writing cold emails will not land you an internship. Write a dedicated cold email. If you're just copy-pasting the same stuff into each email, you're just FOOLING yourself. 𝗖𝗦𝗘 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝟮 𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝟭 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲𝘀? One of hardest questions for current IIT Aspirants. Firstly, your placement is not decided by your college tag but your overall work experience and your CGPA. All good companies put a CGPA cutoff to allow you to sit in placement interviews, and after that, your skillset matters a lot. You have to be able to display your communication and smartness in interviews. Being in a good college doesn't spoon-feed you placements. It'll only help you go on the stage. How you perform for the audience is up to you. Old IITs will offer you those things and precious opportunities that new IITs, or famous private colleges won’t. If you are determined to do something in your life and keep up the grind, then even a low branch at old IITs will give a very solid boost for any future endeavours. The pristine alumni network and the network you will be able to gather around you will definitely give you leverage. It'll give your work credibility. In any case, you should try be among the top students of your batch to land a real good placement. In old IITs, having CSE and Circuit branches, is like life made easy for you, but be prepared that the academic curriculum is pretty tough for them. In lower branches you might not be easily handed placements, but if you are determined and enthusiastic about doing something, you can do literally anything by taking advantage of the opportunities. There is a reason 2500+ startups have been founded in the 7 Old IIT's. I highly recommend people with ranks under 6-7k to make your decision after thoughtful consideration. You've achieved what a lot of others couldn't after preparing for the past few years. You gave JEE because everybody was going to. Don't force yourself to choose a college because everybody wants you to. These 4/5 years will plan out your next 40 years of work. A civil student from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras went on to be the Founder of Internshala. A metallurgy student from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur went on the be the CEO of Google. You could choose a perfect path that helps you earn enough to retire early.
