Members-based Coalition advocating on behalf Canadians living with neurological conditions, disease and brain injury.
About us
Neurological Health Charities Canada (NHCC) is a member-based coalition comprised of fourteen neurological health charities advocating on behalf of people with brain diseases, disorders, and injuries in Canada. NHCC convenes like-minded organizations with objectives to learn, improve programming, and enhance their ability to deliver effectively on mission-critical objectives. Collectively, these conditions represent one of the leading causes of disability in Canada. In 2008 NHCC lead the first Canadian health study of neurological conditions in Canada receiving $15M to complete the ground-breaking report Mapping Connections released in 2014 and still in use by Public Health Agency of Canada as part of its chronic disease surveillance guidelines and criteria and by Health Canada to inform decision-making on policy and investments. Today, NHCC provides advocacy leadership on important issues affecting people with brain conditions, enabling all member organizations to participate in advocacy efforts as a strong, coordinated voice on brain health issues to government, politicians, and policy advisors. NHCC also provides a critical connection with leading organizations within the brain research community including the Canadian Brain Research Strategy, where NHCC is a partner organization. NHCC also works closely with the Canadian Association for Neuroscience and the CIHR Institute for Neurosciences Mental Health and Addiction. NHCC envisions a Canadian Society where neurological health is valued, promoted, and prioritized through the work of policy-makers and reflected in decisions related to budgeting. We believe that through data-informed decision-making neurological health disorders can be prevented and treated to avoid premature death, disability, and improve the overall quality of life of Canadians through appropriate access to health care treatments and services.

At this time we will be closing the letter campaign. Please continue to refer to our website for the latest updates. https://lnkd.in/gZUyPpjq _______ We need your help to impress upon Conservative MPs how important it is to allow the National Strategy on Brain Injuries to move forward to the Senate without further delay. The Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute at the University of Alberta has an exciting new initiative to announce! Introducing CONNECTIONS, a collection of artworks and scientific images that portrays aspects of neuroscience, brain diseases and mental health disorders, and their intersections with art and life. This collection was born from a desire to build links among the scientific community at the University of Alberta, patients with neurological and mental health disorders, and the community at large. In this exhibition at the Royal Alberta Museum, you’ll discover the beautiful linkages that exist among our brain cells; weave together the threads of neuroscience research, clinical care, and recovery from brain diseases and mental health disorders; immerse yourself in the inspiring, healing power of art; and highlight the humanity in our connections.
