About us

The New Jersey Psychiatric Association (NJPA) was founded in 1935. It is the American Psychiatric Association (APA) District Branch for the State of New Jersey, and has over 850 members. NJPA is therefore the official voice of organized psychiatry in New Jersey, and participates, through its delegates to the APA Assembly, in the determination of APA official actions. NJPA has five regional chapters (Central, Northern, Ocean-Monmouth, Southern and Tri-County) and the Residents' Chapter for members-in-training (physicians in psychiatry residency training programs). VISION STATEMENT The New Jersey Psychiatric Association strives to support its members in the compassionate and ethical delivery of the most current, evidence-based, empirically validated psychiatric care. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the New Jersey Psychiatric Association is to serve its members’ professional practice needs, including delivering essential practice management tools and continuing education programs; fostering physician wellness as the foundation of successful practice; educating the public and New Jersey’s lawmakers on the science of psychiatry; supporting the development of NJ psychiatrists in training; promoting the professional standards of psychiatric care; and advocating to protect the interests of patients and their families.
