For more than a decade, I’ve had a nagging sense that the interventions we so carefully design in health and medicine are insufficient to solve for the complex system problems we actually face as a society. Even in the midst of my long IDEO tenure doing all manner of interesting work, I had a growing sense of dread that I was only ever working at the edges of the dysfunction. Seven years in academia and then my third startup experience did nothing to allay those fears, but they have informed my perspective.
