About us

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the largest public housing authority in North America. NYCHA is committed to increasing opportunities for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers by providing safe, affordable housing and facilitating access to social and community services. More than 400,000 New Yorkers reside in NYCHA’s 326 public housing developments around the five boroughs, and another 235,000 receive subsidized rental assistance in private homes through the NYCHA-administered Section 8 Leased Housing Program. To fulfill its vital mission and even better serve residents while facing dramatic reductions in traditional government funding, NYCHA is developing new financing options and building innovative partnerships across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. These strategies are helping NYCHA to address many key challenges, from preserving aging housing stock through timely maintenance and modernization of developments, to increasing resident access to a multitude of community, educational and recreational programs, as well as job readiness and training initiatives.

  • 🎓 Congratulations to the 16 graduates of New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)'s Childcare Business Pathways (CBP) program, the eighth cohort since 2016! This initiative, run by NYCHA’s Department of Resident Economic Empowerment & Sustainability (#REES), empowers residents to launch and grow successful home-based childcare businesses. Over 15 weeks, participants gain tools, training, and support to become licensed childcare providers, contributing to their communities and pursuing financial independence. Since its inception, 137 NYCHA residents and Section 8 voucher holders have graduated from CBP, with many now running thriving businesses. Special thanks to our partners— JPMorganChase Foundation, BOC Net, and others—for making this possible and to all who champion resident entrepreneurship. The ninth cohort begins Spring 2025, and we can’t wait to see even more success stories! 📢 Learn more about the program and its impact: https://lnkd.in/ehBp66v2 #NYCHApreneuers #NYCHAResidents

Social services for the developments were expanded through a partnership with Black Veterans for Social Justice, which offers case management services to all households, including by supporting access to healthy food, employment opportunities, youth activities, and senior services.
