NEX funds three IRF Fellows. We are pleased to announce the recipients of NEx-IRF scholarships. NEx, with financial support from Aramco, provided funding for three International Road Federation (IRF) Fellows, Class of 2025, whose research aligns with NEx’s focus on nonmetallic materials. Earlier this month, the selected Fellows participated in an esteemed IRF Road Scholar Program. Throughout this immersive experience, they undertook rigorous leadership training, networked with global luminaries in road and transport infrastructure, and enjoyed presentations from industry experts. The program also featured field visits to cutting-edge research laboratories and prominent organizations. The selected NEx IRF Fellows 2025 are Dheeraj Adwani, Deepak Benny, and Maryam Khooshechin Gilak. Dheeraj Adwani is a PhD Student at The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX. His doctoral research primarily addresses the aging of asphalt binders and their influence on asphalt pavement cracking, as well as the development of faster evaluation methods for asphalt binders and reclaimed asphalt pavement. Deepak Benny is a PhD Student in transportation and infrastructure systems at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. As part of his studies at Purdue University, Benny is investigating the cost-effectiveness and performance of polymer-modified concrete overlays on in-service bridge decks using empirical data. Maryam Khooshechin Gilak is a PhD Student in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Sustainable Engineering at Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ. Her primary research is focused on pavement material design, advanced laboratory testing, and using environmentally friendly materials in asphalt mixtures, with an emphasis on sustainable transportation infrastructure. Congratulations to all NEx IRF Fellows 2025! In the photo from left: NEx IRF Fellows 2025—Deepak Benny, Dheeraj Adwani, and Maryam Khooshechin Gilak, with Jerzy Zemajtis, NEx Executive Director.
