Platform for the voices of global feminists and women’s rights organizations who advocate for their inclusion in the UN.
About us
NGO CSW/NY ensures that the voices and leadership of feminist and women’s rights organizations all over the world are included in UN deliberations such as the annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). We are untiring in our pursuit of gender equality and empowerment across the globe. Along with civil society around the world, we advocate for the governments of Member State to meet the commitments they make via declarations, resolutions, and treaties. We facilitate the largest gathering of civil society at the UN in support of women by hosting 10,000 women from around the world, coordinating and scheduling their 500+ parallel events. At the two-week NGO Forum, activists gather from around the world to discuss issues pertaining to women and girls, to network, share strategies/best practices and to lobby governments at the CSW.

🌟 And that’s a wrap! 🌟 What an incredible journey it has been reflecting on the 30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995–2025) with our New York City community! This powerful event series at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, in collaboration with the NGO Committee on the Status of Women, New York (NGO CSW/NY), brought together voices from across the globe to reflect on the progress we’ve made and the work that still lies ahead. We couldn’t have done it without the dedication and vision of the NGO CSW/NY Executive Committee and Team, who made this series such a success. 🎉 A huge thank you to each of you for bringing this to life! ✨ Special shoutout to Rosemary Barberet, Professor in the Sociology Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, who teaches and serves in International Criminal Justice and is a proud member of the NGO CSW/NY Executive Committee. Rosemary’s leadership, expertise, and tireless efforts were instrumental in making this entire series possible. Your passion and commitment to gender equality inspired us all—thank you, Rosemary! 💐 Here’s a look back at the events in the series: 📌 September 19: The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: Reflecting on the Past and Leaning Forward 📌 October 18: Femicide in the Americas – with a poignant screening of Norma and an impactful discussion. 📌 November 22: UNITE Against Gender-Based Violence 📌 December 12: Education as a Pathway to Leadership From thought-provoking conversations to meaningful actions, this series reminded us of the power of community in advancing gender equality. Thank you for joining us, sharing your voices, and being part of this journey. Together, we’ll continue to advocate, educate, and work toward a world where equality is reality. 🌟 NGO CSW/NY is excited to build on this momentum and we look forward to hosting more in-person events for our local community in 2025. Stay tuned for what’s next! #BeijingPlatform30 #GenderEquality #ThankYou #NGOCSWNY #JohnJayResearch

Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a grave human rights violation rooted in inequality. Frameworks like CEDAW, adopted in 1979, have been pivotal in recognizing VAWG as a form of discrimination requiring urgent action. Global and regional agreements also strengthen this fight: 🔹 Istanbul Convention (Europe) 🔹 Belém do Pará Convention (Latin America) 🔹 Maputo Protocol (Africa) 🔹 ILO Convention No. 190 (Global) – addressing gender-based violence and harassment in the workplace As we mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, let’s honor these commitments and work together to end VAWG everywhere. 🌍✊ Read more here https://ow.ly/V02t50UnBCA #16Days #EndVAW #CEDAW #HumanRights #GenderEquality

Poverty and gender-based violence are deeply connected. Violence traps women and girls in poverty, while poverty increases their risk of violence. Breaking this cycle means addressing both—empowering survivors and promoting economic justice. #16Days #EndGBV #BreakTheCycle
