On February 25th, we’re grabbing drinks together as a community! Escape the cold and come hang out with fellow animators/motion designers/vfx artists/etc from across Minnesota (and even Wisconsin, shhhh, don’t blow their cover.) Who knows… you might just find the artistic soulmate you’ve been looking for to collaborate on your next project. This time, head over to Northeast and find us in the West Taproom at Sociable Cider Werks. N/A options are there and students welcome, just bring ID if you want alcohol! Make sure you RSVP through the eventbrite so we get a headcount. Pssst— If you don't know anyone or are nervous, our Nice Moves events committee members will be there and can try and introduce you to people! TONIGHT! Be there or be square!

We have an event coming up on January 22nd! Adam Othman will share tips and software features that he has found useful while working as an animator, primarily in TVPaint and Harmony (though he hopes other softwares have similar tools!). He’ll speak about his journey into animation, filmmaking, and advice for working as an animator in productions. He might even have things to share from his current personal film in progress – the itch for animated filmmaking still inspires him. A little more about our speaker: Adam graduated from Calarts’ Character Animation program, and has worked as a 2D animator since. His films, Horned Cook Gola, and Boys Night in Sidera Institute, have screened at multiple film festivals, including Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival and the Los Angeles Animation Festival. He is currently working as a 2D artist and animator at MAKE in Minneapolis. Adam is from Malaysia, and had never seen snow until he moved to Minnesota. As always, free pizza and drinks! Question for our upcoming January speaker event: would folks prefer if it was on a Wednesday or Thursday? We typically do Thursdays (try to aim for 3rd Thursday of the month) but we've had a few people mention that they often have conflicts or other obligations, so we want to hear from everyone as to what day works best!
