Royal Rejection: 9 Oyo Princes Reject Oba Owoade as Alaafin Nine princes from the Atiba ruling house in Oyo have rejected the appointment of Oba Akeem Owoade as the Alaafin of Oyo, citing that the process was contrary to the custom, culture, and tradition of Oyo. The princes, known as the Atiba 9, alleged that the appointment was also against the rule of law. They emphasized that they are not against Prince Owoade's aspiration for the throne but rather the flawed process that led to his selection. The Atiba 9, comprising Prince Sina Afolabi and eight other princes, disclosed that they are pursuing a court case against the process that produced Owoade and another contestant, Prince Ridwan Gbadegesin. They argued that Governor Makinde's actions were against the revered Alaafin Stool, reducing it to an object of ridicule.
