Grand Wednesday evening at the National Military Intelligence Foundation's 50th anniversary celebration and "Night of Heroes" in Alexandria, VA. Pleased to share a keynote, along with fellow former Intel battle buddy Karen Gibson, about the importance of academic excellence (12 Merit Scholarships awarded!), performance and leadership in the profession of intelligence. Particularly proud to have received this award some years ago when I was on active duty, and to help present this year's honor, along with Director of Naval Intelligence, VADM Karl Thomas, to the 2024 active duty Navy Award winner, CAPT Jason Davis, the N2 at U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / Navy Space Command / U.S. TENTH Fleet. The award is titled the VADM Rufus Taylor Award, named for that former Officer who served with distinction as in Intel Officer in the Pacific during WWII and later become head of the Office of Naval Intelligence, Deputy Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency during the Johnson Administration. Kudos to NMIF leaders LTG (R) Mary A. Legere and Stephen K Iwicki and the many outstanding sponsors that made this such an inspiring event! November 20, 2024 was a special day where I started the day excited to meet the scholaship winners from the National Military Intelligence Foundation (NMIF). As a returning judge, I was honored to shake the hands of our future intelligence leaders! But, what I wasn’t expecting was the powerful reflection of why I worked so hard in intelligence. I started my career pre-9/11 in intelligence with so much energy to maintain security and safety in our nation. I enjoyed how the recipients matched that energy and passion I had when I started the journey. The leaders of the evening were incredible. Karen Gibson was an amazing keynote speaker to remind everyone, how the role of intelligence is one rooted in honor and the mission is focused on telling the truth. Winners, I am so proud of you! Take your passion and energy to defend our country with ethics, honor, and the truth! Karen Gibson | Natalie Wells | LTG (R) Mary A.
