Region 2's Technology and Communication Strategist, Fionia Washington, recently attended and exhibited at the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) conference. Her participation aligns with Region 2’s ongoing efforts to enhance outreach and engagement with Minority Serving Institutions, particularly HBCUs. President Joe Biden addressed the attendees with his remarks, underscoring the importance of these institutions. During the event, Ms. Washington had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Miguel Cardona, Secretary of Education, whose leadership has been instrumental in increasing federal funding for HBCUs. Additionally, she connected with Lynwood McDaniel, Ed.S., an alumnus of South Carolina State University—an institution located in Region 2’s home state. A key highlight of the conference was Ms. Washington’s meeting with 110 White House Scholars, distinguished students representing 77 HBCUs. This engagement reinforces Region 2’s commitment to building strong, strategic partnerships with HBCUs and fostering future collaboration.
