✨ Join me in supporting Black women scholars ✨ Today marks the start of an exciting fundraising campaign for an organization I’m honored to serve: Cohort Sistas. As a board member, I’m reaching out to share our mission and ask for your support! Cohort Sistas is dedicated to advancing gender and racial equity in doctoral education, particularly by supporting Black women and historically excluded scholars. Since 2020, this incredible community has provided essential resources, mentorship, and a network of support to doctoral students, applicants, and degree holders who navigate the complexities of academia. This work resonates deeply with me because I know firsthand the challenges that come with navigating these spaces without adequate support. It was my own experience navigating being a full-time doctoral student, full-time higher education professional, and mother to a young daughter that led me to examine the lived experiences and mentoring relationships (or lack thereof) of Black women in the academy for my dissertation research. I can only imagine the difference having a community like Cohort Sistas would have made during my own graduate journey! ✨ Celebrating International Women's Day & Women's History Month! ✨ As we kick off this month dedicated to honoring the incredible contributions of women throughout history and in our present lives, on this day especially--International Women's Day--I'm filled with gratitude for the strength, grace, tenacity, courage, and beauty of all the remarkable women who have touched my life in so many ways. It was an absolute honor to start Women's History Month by attending the SXSW EDU Conference in Austin earlier this week and participating as a Mentor--alongside the brilliant and dynamic Vanity Jenkins, Sheria McRae, Aquabah Gonney-Buckner, and Monica Santana Rosen--for the "Mentoring Women of Color in Leadership Roles" Mentorship Roundtable. Being able to support, coach, and learn from women across the learning continuum was truly an amazing experience. To keep the party going, I am preparing to serve as a coach in collaboration with Stacy Poe at the NASPA - Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education Conference in Seattle, co-facilitating a pre-conference workshop, "Cultural Coaching Connections: Group Coaching for BIPOC Women Student Affairs Professionals". I look forward to connecting with the women who will be in attendance (and seeing so many of my favorite people at this conference...it's been so long!) This month, let's not only recognize the achievements of women but also actively uplift and empower each other. Together, we can continue to break barriers, shatter stereotypes, and pave the way for future generations of women leaders.
