NGA's mission: promote & enhance the safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible delivery of natural gas.

About us

The Northeast Gas Association (NGA) is a regional trade association that focuses on education and training, technology research and development, operations, planning, and increasing public awareness of natural gas in the Northeast U.S. NGA represents natural gas distribution companies, transmission companies, liquefied natural gas importers, and associate member companies. These companies provide natural gas to more than 13 million customers in nine states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont). NGA was established on January 1, 2003. Its predecessor organizations were The New England Gas Association (founded in 1926) and the New York Gas Group (founded in 1973). Its headquarters are in Westborough, Massachusetts; its R&D entity, NYSEARCH, is located in northern New Jersey.

  • Did you miss the ULC Technologies Inc., Spotlight Session on Robotic 12" Cast Iron Joint Sealing in Live Mains earlier last week? If so, the presentation is now available to NGA members on NGA’s e-Learning Channel! CISBOT is an established robotic technology that enters live cast iron gas mains to internally remediate leaks by injecting a sealant into the joints. Since 2009, this technology has sealed more than 130 miles of 15”-42” diameter mains, extending the life of critical gas infrastructure and reducing the impact of utility work to the public and the environment. NGA members can log into the learning channel at: https://lnkd.in/eg8g7JHq

This week, I had the opportunity to attend the 2024 NGA Pipeline Safety Regulation Workshop Part 192 at the National Grid Training Center. It was an incredible chance to dive deep into Natural Gas Code Part 192. Learning from the expertise of Mark Hereth & Bob Wilson and understanding how to apply Part 192 in real-world scenarios was truly amazing. I want to say thank you and can’t wait until next year.

Are you participating in next week's Part 192 Pipeline Safety Regulation Workshop? On October 29th and 30th, NGA’s Pipeline Safety Regulation Workshop (Part 192) will be hosted in-person at National Grid’s Operations Center on Long Island. The course provides a review and practical application of federal regulations in 49 CFR Parts 191 and 192 that apply to distribution and transmission piping systems. The course will take the student through a "what, why & how" approach to federal pipeline safety regulations, including their intent and the significant requirements that apply to distribution systems as well as compliance implications of the Pipes Act. The session will also explore the PHMSA Website and review valuable pipeline safety information “tools” students should become familiar with.   Learn more and Register here: https://lnkd.in/gNtpXF9a

Last week, a Michigan man tragically lost his life during a home invasion, where two intruders allegedly posed as utility workers to gain access to his home. Our deepest sympathies are with the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time. As we reflect on this horrible incident, NGA urges our members to carefully review their procedures to help prevent similar tragedies. Ensuring safety measures are in place can  protect both customers and employees. ▪ What are your company's protocols before visiting a customer? Are these procedures communicated effectively to customers in advance? ▪ Do you have clear channels for customers and employees to report and document suspicious activity? ▪ How does your company handle the disposal of branded materials, uniforms, and PPE to prevent unauthorized use? ▪ What additional safety measures can be implemented to protect customers and staff during interactions? For more information for customers and utilities, check out Utilities United Against Scams, which includes a consumers guide to imposter utility scams. For example, if you are unsure about the legitimacy of someone claiming to represent your utility company who requests access to your home, look for a marked company vehicle, ask for ID and don’t hesitate to call your utility for verification. Safety is a shared responsibility. As we strive to provide our customers with the highest level of security and trust, NGA stands ready to support you in these efforts. Please don't hesitate to reach out for assistance. https://lnkd.in/eaXZBtSH
