  • We always strive to remain politically agnostic when drafting our missives, and this installment is no exception. To this end, the main objective of our recent note is to convey what we believe investors could expect from the economy and capital markets in the near and intermediate term. Leading into Election Day, most political pundits and pollsters expected a close race. Our analysis and research going into Election Night also suggested that the outcome of the 2024 Presidential Election was a toss-up. However, we had expected control in the Senate and the House to flip. Further, regardless of who ultimately occupied the Oval Office, our base-case assumption of a split Congress would have promoted status quo policy initiatives. Now we know for certain that Republicans will control Congress and the Oval Office, an outcome we assigned a low probability to a little over a week ago. Given the unprecedented nature of the time leading up to and on Election Day, we can only presume that investors should expect more of the unexpected going forward. Many policy initiatives may now be either fast-tracked through Congress or have a smooth glide path for implementation. However, as we can see, much of President-Elect Trump's platform may be inflationary and could stymie economic growth in the intermediate term. Despite a more cautious view regarding the ramifications of a Trump 2.0 Presidency, we believe the market may continue to rally in the near term while the economy kicks any recession risk further down the road. Within our note, we further highlight those sectors and industries that may benefit and those that may not.
