An innovative approach to education that integrates professional industry experience into the academic curriculum

About us

Experiential learning, anchored by our world-renowned cooperative education program, is the heart of a Northeastern education. Starting in 1909, the College of Engineering was the first school at Northeastern to offer the co-op program. Today the university is ranked No. 1 in internships/co-ops by U.S. News and World Report. Co-op gives BS, MS, and PhD students an opportunity to work within their profession for four, six, or eight-month periods as part of their academic program, giving them real-world experience while helping to finance their education. Co-op positions are also available locally and globally and for industry and research positions. Co-op is also of high value to employers, providing them access to talented and innovative students to meet their workforce needs and business objectives.

  • 2024 Outstanding Co-op Employer Awards    The Outstanding Co-op Employer Awards are a chance for the Northeastern University College of Engineering Co-op to recognize employers that have gone above and beyond to collaborate with our Co-op program and provided students with opportunities to be engaged, inspired, and transformed in 2024!    For these reasons, we would like to recognize Applied Materials for their dedication to Northeastern University’s Co-op program.     Paula Perry has been a warm and supportive mentor to Co-op students, and a strong advocate for the Northeastern Co-op Program within the organization for many years. Arianna Faria is doing a fantastic job recruiting and supervising Northeastern co-op students this year. Applied Materials has hired co-ops consistently for 19 consecutive cycles, and have hired many former Northeastern co-ops after graduation as well. I can always confidently tell students who are considering co-ops at Applied Materials that it is worth the drive, due to the excellent mentorship and company culture. Thank you, Applied Materials, for your partnership! #cooperativeeducation #engineering #coop

Since 2018, Granite has been an exceptional employer partner to the COE and Northeastern’s co-op program. Beyond simply hiring Northeastern students for co-ops and internships, Granite’s recruiters and hiring managers go above and beyond in supporting the MGEN co-op team each semester. Granite representatives actively participate in both in-person and virtual speaker sessions, attend career fairs, and contribute to employer testimonial and marketing initiatives. Additionally, Greg Collard, Director of College Recruiting, and Nicole Destefano, Campus Recruiter & Branding Specialist, maintain outstanding communication with the MGEN co-op team throughout the entire recruitment process and provide constructive feedback for students. Granite Telecommunication’s recruiters and hiring managers have also extended the duration of many Northeastern students’ co-ops and converted students to full-time employees upon graduation. - Jessica Fisher    Thank you, Granite Telecommunications, for your partnership!    #cooperativeeducation #engineering #coop
