Thanks a lot to Giorgio Garbujo and Marco Preziosa from Additive Italia srl for stopping by our booth at Formnext - Where ideas take shape last week. They brought a 3DP printed bridge along. If you are wondering what this might be, here is a bit of background. Additive Italia is working with JCA (Fachhochschule), teaching students on generative design. They launched a competition among the students to design the lightest structure, under a defined loading, subject to the part not failing. The students used nTop for the generative design part and they printed the designs right after. For the final test they take the structure between two tables - you see the 2 L-brackets on both sides - and then put a 15kg weight, hanging on a rope through the hole you see in the middle.  When I teached topology optimization in the past, it was just virtual. I like this very practical exercise, experiencing topology optimization with the direct feedback at the end, if it works or not. What a great motivation to design. Would you join such a class?  For educational purpose nTop is free to access. I'm just getting back to NYC and reflecting on the week at Formnext - Where ideas take shape in Frankfurt -- A few highlights: 1-3: nTop Computational Design Night Tue: 1: Benjamin Koch presenting Sauber Technologies AG / Sauber Group's impressive use of computational models to create lighter and stronger F1 parts with lots of opportunity ahead 2: Francesco Trevisan presenting a cylinder head re-design + optimization model on one of the largest IC Engines I've seen from Wärtsilä 3: 50 of our top champions who came together for a night of Computational Design -- My favorite aspect of the week is getting to reconnect with old friends and also make new ones with our shared interests in computational design ___ 4. Signing our collaboration agreement officially with Udo Eberlein and the Materialise team just one year after meeting and planning to enable mesh-free implicit workflows between our tools! I's so proud of the teams to open up implicit interop to all 3D print vendors in the Materialise ecosystem. ___ 5. Never expected to see Customs show up here... (https://lnkd.in/exhhF6Xa) ___ 6. Impressive Constellium CP1 Aluminum parts from Morf3D Inc. -- We're seeing a lot of new applications enabled by this material for heat exchangers ___ 7. Lots of fully assembled rocket engines -- I'm happy to see the industry starting to prove out more additive applications at the systems level -- It's no longer good enough to show 3D printing a XX% lighter bracket, instead, how can Additive enable getting a product to market faster and usually it take a systems level approach to really do this __ 8. Frankfurt's post-modern architecture __ and lastly : Getting to spend time with our team -- I'm so proud to work with the best team on the planet for building computational design tools and deploying them across our wide-ranging customer base spanning aero, defense, auto, to heavy industry & medical customers -- Engineering software requires such deep and niche knowledge across a wide set of industries, and our team is the best in the world

DEVELOP3D featured Cobra Golf's first 3D printed irons in their magazine! 📖 Cobra needed to reduce and redistribute weight, manage the club’s sound and feedback, and get to market fast. 💡 With a computational design approach based in nTop, Cobra could generate, visualize, explore, and evaluate designs quickly. They used lattices to redistribute weight from the center of the club to areas low in the toe and heel of the club to improve forgiveness and distance. They also tried different configurations and unit cell styles to get a vibration frequency that produced a satisfying sound and feel at impact. 💥 The new irons deliver on game-improvement goals and have the premium look and feel players want. ✅ Check out the iron head at our booth at Formnext! 🏌️♂️ And get a copy of the DEVELOP3D magazine to read more about their innovative product. 📍 Hall 12.1 Booth A126 #nTop #DEVELOP3D #cobragolf #Formnext2024

We are very excited to expand our partnership with Materialise! We have partnered to ensure that all new Next-Gen Build Processors will have the option to include the nTop implicit modeling kernel out of the box. This will enable users to easily transfer high-performance geometries directly for build prep and slicing without the need for time-consuming translations. Check out the press release here: https://lnkd.in/eXA-Xdpq #nTop #Materialise #implicit
