During #NeurIPS2024, the international conference in #machinelearning and computational neuroscience, NTT Research's Maya Okawa and Hidenori Tanaka were awarded a Spotlight distinction for their paper in the top 2-3 percent of submissions, "Emergence of Hidden Capabilities: Exploring Learning Dynamics in Concept Space." The paper analyzes generative AI models’ learning dynamics through a framework coined “the concept space," finding that modern models could be hiding far more advanced capabilities than current protocols reveal. The research begs the question, “How do we unlock these 'hidden capabilities' through novel extraction protocols?” Additionally, NTT RESEARCH scientists delivered five presentations on papers on data classification, latent functions, partial differential equations and more. About us
Launched in 2019, NTT Research is a Silicon Valley-based startup dedicated to conducting fundamental research in the fields of physics, cryptography and medical informatics with a singular goal: to Upgrade Reality for all. Today, NTT Research is home to three foundational research laboratories, including the: Physics & Informatics Lab: The PHI Lab’s mission is to build simple, efficient and practical solvers for real-world problems facing an information-intensive society. It exists to rethink “computation” with the fundamental principles of quantum physics and brain science while simultaneously developing hardware. Its research focus areas include Algorithms & Applications, Neural Networks, Quantum Simulations and Photonic Accelerator Hardware. Cryptography & Information Security Lab: The CIS Lab aims to create a more secure future for all with the goal of becoming the world’s premier cryptographic research laboratory. At NTT Research, the CIS Lab views cryptography as an essential building block for a smarter world. CIS Lab researchers focus on foundational research problems to deliver findings and breakthroughs with the greatest long-term impact as they explore attribute-based encryption, homomorphic encryption and functional encryption. Medical & Health Informatics Lab: The MEI Lab is conducting fundamental research with a vision towards a future of improved health outcomes through a more personalized, preventive, predictive and participatory practice of medicine. The lab aims to individualize and revolutionize healthcare through the application of Bio Digital Twin technologies. The MEI Lab’s initial focus is the development of an organ systems-level Cardiovascular Bio Digital Twin (CV BioDT) as well as an in vitro Heart-on-a-Chip digital twin platform. One day, by addressing the complex interactions necessary to represent these conditions of unmet medical need, the overall Bio Digital Twin will be developed.
