The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released a new accounting and reporting methodology to ensure the accurate, consistent, and transparent tracking of emissions reductions from sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). DHL Express has taken a major step toward sustainable air transport by launching Asia’s first regular cargo service powered by Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).  DHL has secured an annual supply of 7,200 kilolitres of SAF, marking its first SAF acquisition in Asia and reinforcing Japan’s leadership in sustainable aviation. Air New Zealand is taking a major step toward reducing aviation emissions with its largest-ever purchase of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)—a 23,000-ton supply. This marks a fourfold increase from 2024, though SAF still accounts for just 1.6% of the airline’s total fuel usage. While a small fraction today, the impact is significant. We appreciate Port of Columbia County for showcasing NXTClean Fuels in their monthly spotlight column. The Port has been a steadfast supporter since the beginning, and their collaboration continues to be instrumental in our progress. Together, we’re building momentum for what we hope will soon bring another economic engine to their deepwater port.   Our recent milestone is a testament to this shared vision: the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has approved the water quality permit for our renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel facility at Port Westward Industrial Park.   This $2.5 billion project is more than an investment—it’s a transformative step forward for clean energy and Columbia County’s future. The Royal Norwegian Air Force has made history by becoming the first to fly an F-35 stealth fighter using a 40% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blend. The fuel, derived from waste and by-products, reduces CO2 emissions and strengthens supply security, aligning with Norway's climate goals and defense preparedness. With F-35 operations accounting for about a third of the defense sector’s direct emissions, this initiative marks a significant step toward net-zero carbon targets.
