Dr. Philipp Leucht, MD, PhD, an orthopedic surgeon and scientist at NYU Langone Health, is at the forefront of transforming bone healing. Dr. Leucht's pioneering research focuses on rejuvenating skeletal stem cells—the cells responsible for building new bone—so that fractures in older patients might heal as efficiently as those in younger individuals. His passion for bone science began in his childhood in Bochum, Germany, and has driven him to explore why some fractures heal seamlessly while others do not. Today, as an orthopedic trauma surgeon and Vice Chair of Research at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine's Department of Orthopedic Surgery, he bridges the gap between laboratory discoveries and clinical practice-pioneering regenerative, biology-driven solutions that move beyond traditional mechanical fixes. This groundbreaking research is part of a broader shift in orthopedic medicine, aiming to harness the body's natural healing potential to help millions of patients recover more quickly, reduce complications, and maintain their independence after fractures. Watch now to learn more about Dr. Leucht's innovative work.

When Linda Jeane Delfini, BSN-RN and Dominick Tomasuolo met as 14-year-old freshmen at Staten Island Academy, they became inseparable and would ultimately build their careers together at NYU Langone Health. Their connection, however, runs even deeper. "Once we went on a few dates, it didn't take long before we figured out that we also went to the same preschool," says Linda Jeane. They both attended Wagner College, enrolling in the same nursing program and graduating in 2019. Soon after, they applied for jobs at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and within two months Linda Jeane interviewed for a role in the ICU, and Dominick in the emergency department (ED). “It was just fate that we both were hired. We were thrilled,” Linda Jeane says. Though there’s a long-standing joke that ED and ICU nurses don’t get along—“ED nurses work in a space that’s chaotic, whereas ICU nurses like everything organized and regimented,” Linda Jeane explains—this pair is the exception. They married on December 31, 2023, surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues, and they’re both now pursuing graduate degrees (but at different schools this time). This #ValentinesDay, they reflect on what it’s like working at the same hospital as spouses. “A lot of people say, ‘I could never do that,’ but I don’t mind it at all,” Linda Jeane says. “Our support system is so much bigger because we work at the same place.” “It’s helpful having someone who understands what you do,” Dominick adds. “We have real conversations about our jobs.”
