Working the holidays can be hard. However, I’ve started this tradition where every year I have the kiddos make hand turkeys. Not only does it bring a smile to their faces but the staff love to join in as well to remember a favorite pastime of making them when they were kids. Working the holidays is hard but being in the hospital for the holidays is harder. I take every opportunity I can to remind my kids that they are in fact, kids, and try to engage them in something that will take their mind off their troubles. Even if it is just for a moment, they are able to forget their past traumas, present issues and future worries and enjoy this activity. Bringing happiness to these kiddos is why I do what I do and why I never mind working a holiday.
