The Circular Cement Expansion Mold is designed to measure the expansion or shrinkage characteristics of well cement slurries. In a typical well cementing operation, a cement slurry is pumped into the annulus between the well casing and the bore hole. As the cement slurry hydrates, it undergoes a volume change which translates into bulk expansion or shrinkage. Knowing the amount of expansion or shrinkage allows users to design cement systems which can achieve optimal bonding with the borehole and well casing without sacrificing the integrity of the cement matrix. https://lnkd.in/gm6vtmyU

The Gas Migration Tester (GMT) measures a cement's ability to provide zonal isolation. To replicate downhole wellbore conditions, pressure is applied throughout the full hydration process from liquid to solid. The GMT works in conjunction with the SGSM in the development of gas-tight slurries. While the SGSM measures the time for the transition to take place, the GMT measures what happens before, during, and after the transition time. Before Transition Time: The slurry exerts hydrostatic pressure and prevents gas intrusion. During Transition Time: As the cement hydrates and develops gel strength, the slurry will support it own weight, and hydrostatic pressure (or Pore Pressure) is gradually reduced. The imbalance of formation and wellbore pressures allows high-pressure wellbore fluids and formation gases to intrude into the cement matrix and along the wellbore annulus.
