OAIMA Members are committed to Earth Science Education in Ohio and we are proud to have been part of the recent upgrades at the H.R. Collins Laboratory Geologic Garden. The Ohio Geological Survey recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Collins Laboratory and Core Repository and OAIMA Members were proud to be part of the celebration. OAIMA members donated unique rock specimens to the updated Ohio Geologic Garden. Special thanks to Barrett Paving Materials, National Lime and Stone Co., and the Olen Corporation for their generosity.

The OAIMA Leadership Program traveled to Northeast Ohio this week to visit Lakeside Sand and Gravel. The tour allowed participants the opportunity to learn about the companies long-term and passionate commitment to the community and to explore the unique challenges associated with a small, family-owned operation. The tour of the vast historic construction equipment collection is always a highlight of the session. Thank you to the great team at Lakeside and the Kotkowski family for a fascinating and enlightening day.

The OAIMA recently hosted a legislative mine tour at the Shelly Company’s Marble Cliff Quarry! Legislators had the opportunity to meet with Shelly employees, tour the quarry, and learn firsthand about the critical issues impacting Ohio’s aggregates industry. We discussed workforce development, environmental and civic responsibility, and the vital economic contributions our industry makes to the state’s economy. Thank you to our legislators for taking the time to engage with us and to Shelly Company for hosting such an informative day. Together, we are building a stronger Ohio!

Time To Lime!
*Where Mining and Agriculture Meet - Aglime! With fall harvest in full-swing and the 62nd year of the OSU Farm Science Review, about to begin, this is a great time to highlight where “Mining and Agriculture Meet”. Visit us in Tent 1, Booth #22. Aglime or Agricultural Lime is produced by Ohio Aglime members (also members of OAIMA) across the state to help farmers maintain a balanced soil pH, maximize yields, and reduce runoff. What does Aglime Do? · Aglime neutralizes soil pH and cuts fertilizer costs by making fertilizer more available to plant roots. o Fertilizers that contain nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and other essential nutrients are dramatically affected by soil acidity. Most fertilizers are more effective in slightly acidic to neutral soils. · Aglime boosts the performance of certain herbicides. o As with fertilizer, modern herbicides are most effective when soil pH is slightly acidic (pH of 6.5) to neutral (pH of 7.0). When soils are more acidic, herbicides attach to soil particles, reducing their ability to control weed growth. · Aglime improves the chemical, biological and physical conditions of the soil. o Water filtration, drainage, and the healthy growth of beneficial microorganisms are improved by the proper application of Aglime o The proper application of Aglime cuts down on the amount of fertilizers and herbicides needed. o Runoff of fertilizers and herbicides is reduced. “If it can’t be Grown, it has to be Mined”
