The cold weather is coming and here are some important reminders about dressing for colder temperatures. ❄️Children are at greater risk for frostbite than adults. The best way to prevent frostbite is to make sure children dress warmly and don’t spend too much time outside in extreme weather. ❄️Dress children in layers of warm clothing. If the top layer gets wet, they will still have a dry layer underneath. ❄️Tuck scarves inside coats and jackets to prevent them from becoming strangulation hazards. ❄️Car seats and winter coats don’t mix. Bulky coats can compress in a crash and create a loose car seat harness. Instead, lay the jacket or a blanket over children once you’ve safely strapped them into their car seat. #OHSAI #HeadStart

Story time 📖 is important for brain development, even for babies who do not talk yet. When you read 📙 with children, they are connecting the words you say to the pictures on the page and to the things in their world. All of those connections are brain 🧠 connections! Any child in Ohio between birth and age 5 is eligible for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio which is available at no cost to families and mails 📦 kids one free book each month until his or her 5th birthday. Today is Let's Hug Day. From Sesame Workshop: Not all children may feel comfortable hugging another person, but they can still benefit from hugs by practicing hugging themselves. Invite children to try patting themselves on the back, closing their eyes, and rocking back and forth, or squeezing tightly or gently. Do they have a favorite way to hug themselves? Remind children that when they’re feeling anxious, sad, angry, or scared—or any of those feelings at the same time—a hug can feel really good. #letshugday #OHSAI #HeadStart

Washing your hands is easy, and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Follow these five steps every time! 1️⃣Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap. 2️⃣Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. 3️⃣Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice. 4️⃣Rinse your hands well under clean, running water. 5️⃣Dry your hands using a clean towel or an air dryer. #handwashingawarenessmonth #OHSAI #HeadStart

November is Native American Heritage Month. Serving traditional foods is a great way to teach about any culture because it allows children to connect with and experience the culture firsthand. Making frybread is a simple recipe to share with the class, https://loom.ly/fkZAM0U Then read the book Fry Bread or even listen to the author read aloud the book: https://loom.ly/MrR5VXc #OHSAI #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth
