  • At Olwyn Foundation we welcome the news that the government is to make a commitment to giving more protection to the victims of stalking. 1 in 5 women have experienced stalking at some point since the age of 16, along with 8.7% of men. We welcome new measures including a ‘Right To Know’ to empower the police to provide victims with information about the identity of online stalkers. We applaud the work of Nicola Thorp who used her own personal experience to enact this change. Police will also be able to issue Stalking Protection Orders and make them more widely available. Home Secretary @yvette_cooper_mp says:” we will use every tool available to us to give more power to victims and take it away from the hands of their abusers.” Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls @jessphillipsmp who has herself been a victim of stalking says. “These measures are just the first step and we will do more to crack down on this sickening crime which no one deserves to experience.” #stalking #protection #government #makethechange #noexcuse

  • We are delighted to support female founded grassroots organisations doing amazing things for young women and girls. Lucy and her team at Fumble are truly making the difference to the landscape of sexual health education.

  • We are thrilled to announce that our new website has launched at www.olwynfoundation.org - this platform is part of an exciting new chapter for us 🙌 . Acting as a funding channel for small grassroots female-founded charity partners, we aim to work alongside those who are achieving maximum impact within the #womenandgirls sector. From working on law changes to support victims of domestic violence who commit serious crime as a result of their abuse, to helping stop #FGM in Africa, to funding informed digital sexual health education for our young people. We will continue to seek out those who empower, educate and protect women and girls in the UK and around the world. #VAWG #charity #femalefounded #girlsjustwantfundamentalrights #healthyrelationships #stopFGM #stopgenderbasedviolence. Thank you to Rossella at Plugin Studios ❤️

  • We are so thrilled to see this new series of masterclasses launch - Fumble have realised that young people both want and need the support and advice from their parents and carers when navigating their journey into adulthood. Porn sites should not be where our young people get their sex education!

It was a full house at the Labour Party Conference last night for the rally against violence towards women and girls. Our CEO, Susie McDonald, spoke about the vital role prevention education plays in ending violence, sharing the stage with Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, Minister for Women and Safeguarding Jess Phillips, Andrea Simon (EVAW), Farah Nazeer (Women’s Aid), Georgia Harrison, and Layla Coe (Killed Women). Susie welcomed Bridget Phillipson’s focus on prevention education and her reflections on a recent visit to a Tender workshop with Georgia Harrison. We're looking forward to working with the Labour government to create a plan to ensure that every child in the UK has the highest quality relationship education. Last night the audience heard desperately sad stories of violence against women – it’s time to change that narrative and focus on bright, violence-free futures for our young people. #Lab24 #prevention #healthyrelationships

  • Olwyn is proud to be a partner with Centre for Women's Justice and their work tackling domestic abuse at all levels of our society. There is still a long road to travel.

If you missed the launch of our new report 'Police Perpetrated Domestic Abuse: has anything really changed since the 2020 super-complaint?', the recording from the event is now available to watch here: https://lnkd.in/eQSiPPkc TW: Domestic abuse

  • So far Olwyn partner The Global Media Campaign to end FGM has taken its Born Perfect Caravan to Guinea Bissau and Mauritania. 80% of the people who see the caravan say they would NOT cut their girls. The caravan is backed by European Union and World Bank. The Born Perfect caravans, known for their giant video screens and live concerts, feature musicians, singers, religious leaders, politicians, survivors, and medics, all advocating for an end to FGM during their 24-hour stay in a village. Local radio campaigns then follow every 2 months reinforcing the Born Perfect Caravan's message. Simple yet effective messaging that is breaking through. #FrontlineEndingFGM.

  • Olwyn is proud to support Centre for Women's Justice in their work supporting the survivors of domestic abuse. Our campaign to protect the rights of survivors within the legal system can only be answered when the very system that is meant to be there to protect them, delivers, rather than further perpetuating the cycle of abuse

Our new report – published today - reveals shocking levels of domestic abuse by police officers continues and police forces are struggling to tackle the abuse of power or recognise that abuse off duty must be addressed. In the report we draw on the experiences of the 200+ women who have approached us since 2020 to share their accounts of domestic abuse at the hands of police officers and staff. We've identified key themes that continue to resurface & the steps that need to be taken. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/eQSiPPkc
