It's a wrap! And we certainly didn’t want the One Young World Summit 2024 to come to an end. The fourth and last day was a rollercoaster of emotions but overall reinforced that #change is possible, and it is us, the ambassadors, who must work for the world we want to create. Feeling #hope and the urgency of taking #action must go hand in hand. 🤝 Plenary Challenge: Delivering Lasting Peace 🕊️ "Peace is fighting for democracy. Peace is fighting for justice. Peace is prosperity. Peace is development. This is the real meaning of peace." — Tawakkol Karman, 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate The session emphasized the importance of #empoweringyouth with the #tools and platforms necessary to influence #peacebuilding efforts globally. 🌍 We listened to footballer Farkhunda Muhtaj, who recounted her efforts in evacuating Afghans during the Taliban takeover, illustrating how #sports and #leadership can facilitate #socialintegration and #peace. Closing Ceremony ✨ We want to congratulate Laura Stocco from our Swiss delegation, who won the LEAD 2030 Challenge sponsored by Reckitt. Have a look at her solution called ➡️ Openversum. One Young World Summit 2025 will be held in the city of Munich 🥨, a vibrant city that promises an environment where creativity and collaboration meet. We are halfway there! On the third day of the 2024 One Young World Summit in #Montréal, the engaging conversations continued as participants tackled critical global issues through two main plenary sessions: 1st Plenary Challenge: Artificial Intelligence (AI) 🤖 "Transformation for positive change can only come from human insight and decision." — Unilever Guest speakers and #impactful ambassadors discussed AI's growing influence on society. They explored both the potential benefits and risks of #AI, emphasizing its role in solving complex global problems, while also addressing concerns around #discrimination, #ethics, #bias, and the future of work. Justin Trudeau , Prime Minister of Canada, spent the day with us, sharing his views and providing advice and guidance to all ambassadors. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging that we are the #generation of transition and that we must #actresponsibly towards AI. 2nd Plenary Challenge: Health Equality 🩺 "We must understand that to eradicate gender inequality in healthcare, we must first eradicate racism." Speakers addressed disparities in #healthcareaccess around the #world. Delegates debated strategies to ensure equitable healthcare, focusing on marginalized communities and advocating for #universalhealth coverage. During Day 2 of the One Young World Summit 2024, we experienced a lot of dynamism and, above all, listened to inspiring stories from our ambassadors in action. Below, we share our highlights with you! 1st Plenary Challenge - Indigenous Voice 🗣️ If all #Indigenous communities were recognized as one nation, they would be the third most populous country in the world. Throughout the different sessions, we understood the importance of giving them a place in #political decisions and how we can remove #systemicbarriers. “We have to break down those ceilings, break down those walls. These systems were not created for the youth, for the Indigenous, not even for us.” - Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke “Always be true to your culture.” - Michèle Audette “My territory is more than a place of conflict. Never lose sight of the collective aspect in everything you do.” - Andrés Tombe 2nd Plenary Challenge - The Climate and Ecological Crisis 🌱 We had the opportunity to hear from experts and ambassadors who emphasized the critical importance of safeguarding our natural resources, particularly #water, and highlighted why protecting #biodiversity must be a top priority. “Systems were created by people and can be changed by people. We have the power to shift our consciousness towards #sustainable choices. The #partnerships we need must be both intergenerational and international.” Paul Polman #Education was a recurring theme mentioned multiple times in both Plenary Challenges. As every year, the inauguration event was a space filled with emotions!
