During the UAB Blazers vs Alabama A&M University basketball game December 18, Hunter Creamer and his mother took to the center court alongside Dr. Rebecca Arend to celebrate Hunter’s victory over cancer. As a child, Hunter suffered from a severe case of neuroblastoma, but after receiving a clinical trial at UAB, Hunter was declared cancer-free. Now 15, Hunter’s a healthy teenager and looking forward to driving. His story is just one of many illustrating the importance of clinical trials in cancer care. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) announced a grant investment of $1,125,000, as well as the grant recipients, at a luncheon celebration held December 5 at The Club. This investment will fuel 22 breast cancer research projects at institutes across the state, and among the beneficiaries are ten researchers here at the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center. Founded in 1996, the BCRFA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to find a cure for breast cancer by funding promising breast cancer research in Alabama and raising community awareness and funding for that research.
