Today, Chesterfield County Public Schools ceremoniously broke ground for the new west area elementary school at 17151 Westerleigh Parkway. The new school will be the 41st elementary school in Chesterfield County Public Schools. Scheduled to open for students in August 2026, the new elementary school in the Matoaca District is part of a community facilities bond plan approved by Chesterfield County voters in 2022. Virginia Public School Authority bonds will cover the building’s $52 million budget. The new school will accommodate up to 1,000 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Remarkable adventures in learning await four Chesterfield County teachers who won 2024 R.E.B. Dr. John T. Murray has been appointed interim superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools, effective Sept. 1, 2024, upon the retirement of Dr. Mervin B. Daugherty on Aug. 31, 2024. The board took action to appoint Dr. Murray during the board's regular August meeting. He will serve in this role until the superintendent search is complete and a new superintendent begins work. Midlothian High senior Mason C. was honored as the No. 1 accounting student in the United States. For the third year in a row, Midlothian High senior Cole C. placed in the top 10 in the nation at Future Business Leaders of America, Inc. Leaders from #oneCCPS and Chesterfield County Virginia Government cut a ribbon on Aug. 1 to officially open the new Falling Creek Middle School. Completed on time and under budget next to the old Falling Creek Middle, the new building is Chesterfield’s first three-story middle school and the largest middle school in central Virginia. Built for 1,800 students, the 238,963-square-foot school in the Dale District positions sixth, seventh and eighth graders on separate floors.
