Between 2022 and 2023, the number of people in families with children experiencing homelessness in Massachusetts increased by an alarming 29%. This statistic is simply unacceptable. At One Family, we remain committed to preventing family homelessness and breaking the cycle of poverty. Through our academic, career, and financial coaching programs, we help Massachusetts families achieve long-term housing stability and financial independence. According to the Massachusetts Rehousing Data Collective, over 45,000 people experienced homelessness statewide in 2023. This number includes adults and children, those who were sheltered in an emergency shelter, Safe Haven, or transitional housing, and those who were unsheltered (on the streets, in cars, tents, and other places not meant for living). Sadly, it's important to note that this statistic undercounts people experiencing homelessness, as it does not include those living in 'doubled-up' or overcrowded residences. At One Family, we believe that prevention-focused policies and programs that promote education and career opportunities are key to breaking this cycle.
