Significant progress at COP29 with the launch of the Baku Initiative for Climate Finance, Investment, and Trade (BICFIT). This initiative reinforces global alignment on climate finance and sustainable trade, paving the way for a unified approach to climate resilience. #COP29 #ClimateFinance
Today the COP29 Presidency launched the Baku Initiative for Climate Finance, Investment, and Trade (BICFIT) Dialogue which will be co-led by UNDP, UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in collaboration with the World Trade Organization Secretariat and ITC and brings together previous and future COP Presidencies. The BICFIT Dialogue will ensure Finance, Investment, and Trade sit at the centre of the climate-change agenda by ensuring alignment, continuity and delivery across discussions, actions and initiatives between past, present and future COP presidencies in support of the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement. The BICFIT Dialogue will complement, incorporate and align with existing global initiatives such as the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, Coalition of Trade Ministers on Climate, the Climate FDI Coalition, and the newly initiated Baku Global Coalition for SMEs Green Transition, to align climate finance, investment, and trade with sustainable development priorities. Datafication of Sustainable finance By recognizing the EU's sustainable finance strategy as fundamentally a data strategy, we highlight the pivotal role of data in driving the transition to a sustainable economy. To fully realize this potential, a comprehensive approach is necessary. This includes fostering collaboration between industry and regulators to develop robust digital reporting standards, leveraging technology through Green RegTech and SupTech, and establishing a centralized digital reporting infrastructure.
