About us
The Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) regulates the practice of nurses and nursing assistants to protect the public. It sets standards for nursing practice, educational program guidelines, and minimum competency levels for entry into the professions it regulates. The Board also takes action regarding licensees who violate the Nurse Practice Act. The OSBN was established in 1911. It is part of the executive branch of Oregon state government, and the Governor appoints the nine OSBN board members. The OSBN conducts five in-person meetings and seven teleconferenced meetings, with the option for special meetings if necessary. About 60 staff members assist the Board in its mission to protect the public through regulatory excellence of education, licensure, and practice and promoting nurse wellness. The OSBN, with the help of its staff: • Interprets the Oregon Nurse Practice Act. • Evaluates and approves nursing education and nursing assistant training programs. • Issues licenses and renewals. • Investigates complaints and takes disciplinary action against licensees who violate the Oregon Nurse Practice Act.

Our Executive Director, Rachel Prusak represented the Oregon State Board of Nursing alongside industry leaders at the 8th Annual Attorney General Elder Abuse Conference. She Engaged in a panel discussion with the Executive Director, Nicole Krishnaswami, JD of the Oregon Medical Board, delving into the professional investigative processes of regulatory boards for nurses and physicians. The discussion included collaborative efforts with Adult Protective Services, Medicaid Fraud Unit, and Law Enforcement Agencies. The insightful panel discussion, expertly facilitated by Ashley Carson Cottingham, Deputy Director of Oregon Long-Term Care Ombudsman was further enriched by the presence of the Board of Accountancy and The Oregon State Bar. A highlight of the event for Director Prusak was reconnecting with the remarkable Attorney General, Ellen Rosenblum who during her tenure brought the first nurse investigator into The Oregon Department of Justice Medicaid Fraud Control Unit because she knows the value of nurses in protecting the public. #NursingRegulation #ElderAbuseConference #Collaboration
