Last month, Christopher and Virginia spent some quality time in Asia!🌏 First stop: Philippines Joint Transplant Summit, where Virginia presented an update on our LifePort Kidney Transporter (LKT), LifePort Liver Transporter, and oxygenation technology. They then traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, to train our LKT distributor, Medical Solutions Co. Their travels next took them to Vietnam to attend the Vietnam Organ Transplant Science Conference in Hanoi, where Dr. Won-Bae Chang from Jeju National University Hospital presented on his team's kidney pumping outcomes. Dr. Won-Bae Chang and his team are the first LKT users in South Korea. He discussed how LKT has helped mitigate long CIT and enabled scheduling flexibility for their kidney transplant surgeries.

What is the impact of kidney pumping on cold ischemia time (CIT) and delayed graft function (DGF)? This retrospective cohort study by Husain et al. analyzed US registry data. Investigators identified kidney pairs from the same donor where there was a notable difference in CIT between the kidneys. The results showed that kidneys with longer CIT were associated with a higher risk of DGF. However, if a kidney with longer CIT is pumped, it had a lower risk of DGF than its counterpart kidney with shorter CIT. The authors concluded that pumping kidneys may mitigate and even overcome the adverse consequences of prolonged CIT on the risk of DGF. Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/g9Jag96i
