Our Future Agenda is an initiative of the UN Foundation to support young people to shape the global policy agenda. It aims to deliver impact for: – The next generation - young people under 30 who make up half the world’s population. – Future generations - the 10.9 billion people yet to be born this century. The UN Secretary-General asked us to host a group of Next Generation Fellows to contribute to Our Common Agenda, his vision for the future of international cooperation. The Fellows set their own vision, ideas, and proposals in a report entitled Our Future Agenda. Building on this foundation, we are recruiting a new cohort of young changemakers to serve as Next Generation Fellows. We also worked with the world’s leading youth-led and focused organizations to launch Unlock the Future as a high-ambition coalition with and for young people. At a time of growing crisis and as young people increasingly demand change, we will: – Support the Next Generation Fellows to lead and shape the agenda, tackle priority issues and challenges, and engage other young leaders, activists, and thinkers from around the world. – Build the Unlock the Future coalition as a forum for political and strategic alignment, for action and for advocacy, and for delivering more strategic financing to young changemakers. – Provide a platform for young people to take intergenerational action to design the future. We are tackling six thematic priorities: transforming education; jobs and economic opportunities; climate and sustainability; justice and inclusion; future generations; and gender equality. Cross-cutting priorities include financing young changemakers and strengthening the role of young people in the United Nations.

🎵 A year ago, I went to listen to Angélique Kidjo in Paris, for a night of so much joyful music and energetic dancing. 🏆 This past week I had the honor of handing her the #SDGVanguard Award at the WeThePeoples Gala dinner. She has won 5 Grammy Awards but also chooses to spend her time bringing hope and building bridges that everybody can be free to walk on. 🌎 As a young woman, born and raised in Peru and having lived in Sierra Leone (where my dress is from), I have seen firsthand the need for mentors and trailblazers like her (and her work with Batonga Foundation), I am thrilled to know thousands of young women can dream and act towards a better future thanks to her support.
