The forum also brought together health workers, social workers and community development assistants at a training held in Pakalinding, Lower River Region aims to deepen participants' understanding and skills on essential nutrition practices. The training constitutes a crucial component of the P2-P2RS project in addressing nutritional security for the beneficiary populace. 𝐏𝟐-𝐏𝟐𝐑𝐒 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐒𝐂 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 Project 2 of the Programme to Strengthen Resilience to Food and Nutrition Insecurity in the Sahel (P2-P2RS) held its second Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting in Banjul, on Friday. The PSC plays a crucial role in providing strategic oversight to the project. The Committee ensures policy guidance, grants approval for key project decisions, and endorses work plans are in congruity with the project's overarching goals. During the meeting, Ansumana Njie, the Operations Director of P2-P2RS, delivered a presentation on the core components of the project. He also highlighted the progress updates and level of implementation reached in the past nine months. The meeting also further enhances the PSC members' understanding of the project's milestones as well as the challenges encountered in the implementation processes. The meeting also accorded members an opportunity to proffer recommendations that add value to the project's implementation in order to beef up its overall success story.

𝐏𝟐-𝐏𝟐𝐑𝐒 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 Project 2 of the Programme to Strengthen Resilience to Food and Nutrition Insecurity in the Sahel (P2-P2RS), on Tuesday 17th December 2024, began a two-day capacity building for its project implementation staff on gender, gender mainstreaming, and sexual gender-based violence. The training exposed participants to gender analytic tools and frameworks critical to effective and inclusive project implementation. Speaking at the commencement of the training, Mr. Ansumana Njie, Operations Director of P2-P2RS reaffirmed the project's commitment to promoting gender inclusion, citing that 60% of the project beneficiaries consist of women and youth. Mr. Njie also commended the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare for gracing the training, underscoring the government's resolve and committment towards women empowerment and gender parity. Mariyann G. Jabang, Director of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment of the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Welfare lauded the initiative and extolled the P2-P2RS project for complementing government's effort in this crusade. She disclosed that the Gambia has attained significant strides in gender inclusion in recent years. However, she emphasised that to achieve the desired gender equality requires continuous collective actions. Halimatou Colley, Gender and Social Safeguards Specialist of the P2-P2RS highlighted the significance of the training as the project's first gender-focused capacity building for staff, saying it would greatly enhance the holistic implementation of the project.

Project 2 of the Programme to Strengthen Resilience to Food and Nutrition Insecurity in the Sahel (P2-P2RS), in partnership with Plant Protection Services (PPS) recently concluded a six-day capacity building for twenty-six farmers and nineteen extension workers on safe handling and management of Agrochemicals. The training held in Jenoi, Lower River Region constitutes an integral part of the project's environmental and social compliance measures vis-á-vis the Pest and Pesticides Management Plan (PPMP). Participants were provided with knapsack sprayers and personal protective equipment to mitigate potential health risks associated with the usage of these agrochemicals. The session also featured practical demonstration of proper application techniques for knapsack sprayers, accurate selection and measurement of chemical doses and the appropriate methods of wearing personal protective equipment.
