About us
The mission of Palmer Scholars is to support underrepresented Pierce County students of color to overcome financial, cultural, and social barriers in their pursuit of higher education. At Palmer Scholars we seek to identify talented young men and women of color from Pierce County who have a desire to receive a post-high school education but lack the financial support to do so. While we select students based on a wide array of criteria, including GPA, test scores, involvement, etc., what we really focus on is the character of each individual applicant. While our Scholars are as diverse as the community they represent, what they have in common is determination, a willingness to rise above their individual situations and make something of themselves, and the resilience and grit to not let anything take them off of their path. All of our Scholars, through the combined efforts of Palmer Scholars Board of Directors and staff, our generous donors and volunteers, mentors, and community support, will have the opportunity to assist in the improvement and quality of life for their community through attaining a post-high school education!

🎓 Scholar Spotlight: Tru Meet Tru, a proud biracial white Pacific Islander and a member of our current Legacy cohort from Silas High School. Tru has embraced her cultural roots and is eager to deepen her connection to her community. With support from friends like Stevie and her aunt, Ms. Turner, she revived the AAPI club at her school to celebrate her heritage and foster understanding among her peers. A dedicated wrestler for eight years, Tru's journey in the sport has been marked by both triumphs and challenges. After an injury at Nationals in July 2024, she found new purpose cheering on her teammates during the season, reinforcing her passion for giving back. Her travels—spanning India, Florida, and Montana—have broadened her perspective and deepened her gratitude. Tru plans to pursue a business career while continuing her wrestling journey, aiming to compete at the college level and eventually in the Olympics. She dreams of returning to Silas High School as a coach to inspire others and give back to the community that shaped her. #buildyourlegacy #legacy2opportunities #palmerscholars
