Excited to see the earth block walls for the ministry in the Gambia well underway. Not only were the earth blocks dug and pressed on the site, but ministry members are actively part of the construction process! The housing rooms shown will house singles and couples in passively cooled spaces that utilize cross-ventilation, thermal mass, and solar shading while residents are being discipled in their Christian faith. The new workshop building is in the background to train locals to weld while building parts needed for the campus buildings.

We are so thankful for the engineering team at Petram for bringing their professional skills to so many projects in Cambodia. Their 20+ person team, made up of Khmer and International staff, has helped design electrical, plumbing, civil, and structural systems for our ministry partners. Petram is located in the capitol city of Phnom Penh and is an affiliate of Engineering Ministries International.

With an annual average income of 800 USD, the Gambia is an extremely low-income country in West Africa. Partner Architects is working with a ministry here that uses a welding apprenticeship school to minister to the youth and give them real world skills. With limited building materials, we are working on ways to use inexpensive and readily available materials in new ways. Some young boys in the village got to help the welding students test the strength of a 3-sided truss made exclusively of standard rebar. The rebar trusses will be used for columns and rafters in buildings on the new YWAM campus.
