📢 The Egypt #PHSSR report is available online now!     This comprehensive report, which will be presented during the Global Congress on Population Health and Development (Global PHDC) in Cairo in October, highlights the key strengths and weaknesses of Egypt's health system and provides evidence-informed solutions and policy recommendations to strengthen it.    Key recommendations include: 🏛 Building on existing political support and the focus on healthcare outlined in Egypt Vision 2030 ☂️ Leveraging the new Universal Health Insurance system to provide universal coverage 🤝 Fully utilising Egypt’s strong partnerships with international health organisations 🌍 Strengthening environment and health policies 📱 Accelerating digitisation and sharing data analytics   “Leading the work on the PHSSR Egypt Report was a true privilege and honour,” commented lead researcher Hesham Dinana. “The great collaborative efforts of the research team, the subject matter experts, academia, business and government officials underpin why we believe Egypt can develop a sustainable and resilient healthcare system.”    This work is the culmination of a partnership between PHSSR and researchers from The American University in Cairo, American University of Beirut, and University of Hertfordshire: Hesham Dinana, Basma Saleh, Eman Mohamed, Fatma M. Last month Esther Pei Wei Chua, report co-author and Consultant at Angsana Health, presented the #PHSSR Malaysia report during the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) ESG Horizons Conference in Kuala Lumpur.    Malaysia’s health system has proven remarkably resilient over the past few years, and with the country predicted to transition from middle-income to high-income status in the next decade it is imperative this system is further strengthened to serve the population in the long-term.    During the Conference, which was attended by representatives from the Ministry Of Health, Malaysia (KKM), policymakers and other healthcare stakeholders, Esther Pei Wei Chua presented timely evidence-based policy recommendations to act upon, including:      🤝 Financing support to civil society and non-governmental organisations to promote healthy lifestyles and deliver community care.    👨⚕️ Developing the workforce by using technology to mobilise volunteers and social workers.    📱 Leverage the full potential of data and technology in healthcare delivery and decision-making.    📈 Integrating disease burden projections into health budgeting and planning to prepare for future shocks and challenges.    These recommendations complement the aspirations outlined in the Ministry of Health’s 2023 Health White Paper, to move towards a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient health system.    Such transformation in complex health systems like Malaysia’s requires cross-sector, multi-stakeholder efforts, and PHSSR is proud to play a part in helping advance the nation’s sustainability agenda. 🌏 Last week, expert speakers came together to the launch the #PHSSR Pacific Islands report at an event co-hosted by The University of Auckland’s Te Poutoko Ora a Kiwa (Centre for Pacific and Global Health), and the Center for Asia-Pacific Resilience and Innovation (CAPRI) for Asia Pacific Resilience & Innovation (CAPRI), PHSSR’s Asia-Pacific hub.    During the opening keynote, Malcolm Turnbull, chair of CAPRI International Advisory Council and former Australian Prime Minister, called the report “a testament to the power of partnership between local governments, NGOs, international organizations, and the private sector.”     Syaru Shirley Lin, founder and chair of CAPRI and PHSSR Steering Committee member, highlighted the connections among health, environmental, and economic resilience, commenting that “no region understands these connections better than the Pacific Island countries.”    An expert panel discussion followed, facilitated by Sir Colin Tukuitonga, Director, Te Poutoko Ora a Kiwa, CAPRI Senior Fellow and lead author of the PHSSR Pacific Islands report, and involved Hon. Dr. Siale Akauola, Minister of Health, Tonga, Dr. Basil Leodoro, Chief Surgeon, Vanuatu, and Emi Chutaro, Executive Director of the Pacific Island Health Officers Association, Honolulu.    🧑⚕️ The discussions highlighted the strengths and weaknesses across Pacific Islands health systems, alongside the different challenges and opportunities to improve environmental sustainability, health system governance, and population health throughout the region.     Key recommendations to drive health system transformation shared included:     🌱 Developing policy responses to address the health impacts of the climate crisis and secure environmental sustainability.    🥼 Increasing investments in healthcare workforce education and training.    📊 Enhancing data collection and reporting to guide evidence-based decision-making.    🏥 Exploring and evaluating alternative healthcare financing models, such as social insurance.    💡 Final insights came from Dr. Eileen Natuzzi, MD, MPH, MD, MPH, Health Diplomacy Affiliate at Georgetown University, and Sir Ashley Bloomfield KNZM CMInstD, former Director-General of Health for New Zealand and Chair of Te Poutoko Ora A Kiwa, provided the closing remarks.    🤝 This informative and engaging event was a valuable opportunity to connect with healthcare policymakers and researchers and share important learnings from across the region. Non-communicable diseases (#NCDs), such as cardiovascular disease, cancers, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases, pose complex and urgent challenges worldwide. Global Week for Action on NCDs is shining a spotlight on the need to #ActOnNCDs to secure a healthier future for people and communities around the world.      Cross-border, multi-sector initiatives such as #PHSSR have a critical role to play in bringing health system stakeholders together to share knowledge and collaborate to find solutions to these issues.     The link between health system strengthening and the proactive management of NCDs was a key point of conversation between healthcare leaders, policymakers, academics and industry representatives during the PHSSR 3rd Summit, held earlier this year.      Topics discussed included:     🏥 The need to invest in a model of care that focuses on prevention and early intervention for NCDs, in order to keep patients out of hospitals for longer.     📱 Advances in data and digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, which present opportunities for comprehensive and personalised approaches to acting early on NCDs.     🌍 How acting earlier on NCDs to improve health at the population level could have far-reaching benefits for societies and economies by improving productivity, reducing pressure on health systems and their workforces, and decreasing the health sector’s carbon footprint.      Watch the full Summit session here: https://lnkd.in/e7m6vhNq      NCD Alliance     #LeadOnNCDs #Sustainability #Resilience #Health #Partnerships
