Empowering families with children to get back into housing and stay there.

About us

Path Home empowers families with children to get back into housing and stay there. Path Home offers programs from crisis to stability: Outreach - families experiencing homelessness, who oftentimes are living in tents or in their cars, get help accessing critical shelter and re-housing resources. Family Village – A shelter where 17 families with kids stay at a time in individual, private bedrooms. The first shelter in Oregon with trauma-informed design & architecture, our shelter provides opportunities for playing, healing, and rebuilding after homelessness, and offers support to help families move back into stable housing. Rapid Re-Housing – Families experiencing homelessness move back into housing. PHFS provides rent assistance, case management, and retention services to help families stay housed. Families create action plans to increase their financial stability, navigate community resources, access medical, mental health, and recovery care, and gain educational and employment opportunities. 88% of families keep their housing long-term. Homeless Prevention – Families at risk of eviction get help keeping their housing with flexible and responsive assistance. PHFS provides rent and utility support for families facing emergencies which may otherwise lead them to homelessness. Basic Income Guarantee – our newest program, PHFS provides $575 cash to families each month for two years. Our goal is that families will increase financial security, reduce debt, have more time to spend with family, and increase their joy and wellness. This cash transfer pilot project is based on worldwide research that shows the fastest way to end poverty is by giving people cash and letting them choose how to use it.

  • Some of you might know that we pride ourselves on our trauma-informed approach to everything. As a matter of fact, something that makes Path Home so unique is our approach to trauma informed architecture and design. The features of trauma-informed design include: 🌱 A sense of abundance and a strong connection to nature through real plants both indoors and outdoors, natural materials, and abundant natural light 🌊 The color palette of the ocean with very minimal contrast between colors 🤸♀️ Flexible spaces that can be used in multiple different ways 🏠 A sense of spaciousness and cleanliness ⚪ Round forms and curved lines that bring a sense of uplift and positivity Trauma-Informed design and architecture is an innovative type of design which is shown to help people heal from the crisis and trauma of experiencing homelessness and can lead to better outcomes, like shorter shelter stays and greater success moving into housing. We would love to see more spaces that reflect the beauty and feelings of ease and safety in more social services settings like shelters. • Path Home’s Executive Director, Brandi Tuck, sat down with Fox 12’s Adrian Thomas to discuss the alarming rise in family homelessness in Oregon. With only three family shelters in Multnomah County, the demand for shelter and affordable housing far exceeds availability. According to the 2023 PIT count, Oregon has the highest rate of family homelessness in the nation. For young children, the effects can be lifelong—experiencing homelessness is a known Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), linked to long-term health and stability challenges. Path Home provides critical support, but Oregon must do more to expand affordable housing and family services to meet the growing need. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gSMSpghE

Oregon’s housing crisis is leaving families priced out with nowhere to turn. This article from OPB highlights the growing tension between renters and landlords, but one thing is clear: when rents rise faster than wages, more families face homelessness. In my work at Path Home, I have seen firsthand how rental assistance and eviction prevention keep families housed. These upstream solutions cost far less than emergency shelter and prevent the trauma of homelessness before it begins. But funding for prevention programs is limited—and the need is clearly growing. We need advocacy from state leadership in affordable housing, tenant protections, and expanded prevention programs to turn the tide. Advocating for these solutions isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s the smartest, most cost-effective way to address homelessness at its root. • Behind the Scenes at Path Home!! Yesterday, our amazing volunteers dedicated countless hours to sorting through an array of new and gently used clothes generously donated by our community. These items are now beautifully displayed in our Family Village Shelter, ready for participants from all Path Home's programs to drop in and shop for themselves and their families. From today through Friday, visitors can find everything from warm winter coats for kids to socks and stylish boots. We're thrilled to welcome families and help them stock up on fashionabble essentials and necessities! Any remaining clothes will be thoughtfully redistributed to other shelters in need. Thank you to everyone who contributed and made this possible!!! #pathhome #Familyvillage #CommunitySupport #PortlandVolunteers #HomelessnessPDX
