🎊 It was wonderful connecting with old friends/classmates and making new connections to bring the needed awareness and attention deserved when it comes to #womenshealth and specifically to the unmet needs of those on the #menopausejourney. 💡 I am grateful to the Wharton Health Care Management Alumni Association's invitation from Michael Rovinsky and Hannah Plon to participate on the "#Innovations in Women's Health" panel at the annual healthcare conference! 🌟 Thanks also to my fellow co-panelists - Delphine O'Rourke, JD, Alisha Lalani, Marina Tarasova, and Kathryn Tong - for an enlightening and insightful discussion that generated such positive feedback. 🎁 Women's health is essential to the well-being of all people. With much work to be done, it is an opportunity to transform lives and a gift that keeps on giving, both now and for future generations! Women are not simply small men. If the best health outcomes are to be within reach for all, the results of past (and current) clinical trials can't simply be extrapolated to the entire population. Factors like sex, gender identity, SES, geographic locale, care access, and race/ethnicity DO make a difference. Want to get involved? 1. Learn about women's health - conditions/life stages specific to females, conditions more prevalent in the female population, and conditions which manifest differently in women and may require different approaches to optimize outcomes. 2. Support the work and efforts of those working in and founding start-ups focused on women's health, particularly those led by women and people of color, who are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to #funding regardless of the source: #grants, #angelinvestors, and #VC and #PEfunding. 3. If/when finances allow, investigate women-led funds like Portfolia and those that support founders from communities of color like Harlem Capital and 1863™ Ventures, and then take action to invest in women and women's health. 4. For venture funds like CVS Health Ventures and Kenvue, take more meetings and increase the investment amounts in women's health. 🤝 Of course, we at pausitive health would welcome your support! Ways you can help: - introductions to: (a) employers (both private and public) interested in supporting employees (and dependents) who are on the menopause journey and enhancing their benefits to address the needs of women across their lifespan, not solely maternity/infertility, (b) 👼 angel investors whose criteria genuinely include pre-seed, pre-revenue companies, and (c) associations, unions, and other organizations that desire greater #quality and lower #costofcare by providing #benefits across their membership for each stage of life. 🆘 Retired or have extra time to share your wisdom and volunteer your talents and skills? I would love to welcome you to the team as a guest contributor! Abby Coffin Wright, Jeff Ruby, Jeff Levin-Scherz, Jeff Tzeng, DO, MPH, MBA, Jeff Voigt, Lisa Rovinsky, John Gorman

The reduced levels of estrogen (and progesterone) which occur during the #menopause journey have long been associated with an increased risk of a variety of both physical and mental health chronic conditions, including #cardiovasculardisease, #diabetes, #anxiety, and #depression. ⚠️ The Menopause Society has now reported a new study which indicates that women who experience menopause at a later age (i.e., the fall in hormone levels occurs when a person is older than most experience it) are at a greater risk of #asthma. The role of hormones and changes in their levels during different stages of life is both complex and complicated! Each person's menopause journey is truly unique. The more women+ know about this stage of life and ask questions about changes they are experiencing, the greater the opportunity to optimize their 🍎 health and well-being as well as prepare for the 🚀vibrant years ahead! So much more progress to be made! https://lnkd.in/e7WqYHA3
Start-Up Founder/Healthcare Executive Talks about #menopause, #healthequity, #mentalhealthandwellbeing, and #healthcare.
📈 Data from the Health Care Cost Institute indicates the diagnosis of #menopause is on the rise. However, even with the increase, the percent of women with any diagnosis of menopause was only 14.7%! Although any increase is a hopeful sign, there is still SO much more progress that must be made. Millions of women face daily challenges and suffer in silence unnecessarily during this stage of life when help is available. 🌟 At pausitive health we offer a program that provides empowering education, resources and tools, care, and community to address the myriad symptoms and chronic disease risks which arise during the hormonal transition. Become a member now! https://lnkd.in/emigrUnY Kudos to HCCI and Tanya Natwick, Katie Martin, Nelly Ganesan and colleague Kelsey Mellard for their analysis and sage words: "......every clinician treating women should begin screening for perimenopause by asking key questions starting at age 40 or earlier with the goal of discussing treatment options to alleviate current symptoms and setting expectations for what lies ahead. Tools, such as menopause symptom trackers, clinician discussion guides, and updated clinical guidelines could help both women and providers navigate the confusion and misinformation surrounding menopause. This analysis underscores the need for education on identifying menopause symptoms, not only for OB/GYNs but also for family and internal medicine practitioners." 🌎 This World Menopause Month, let's work to reach the day when women+ (and their clinicians) receive the education needed to proactively seek help, find compassionate, expert care, and have access to workplace benefits and resources that enable them to thrive at work during this life stage!
