Established in 2018 - PAVMT represents PAs practicing in the rapidly growing field of virtual care and telemedicine. We are the only national organization focused exclusively on expanding PA representation in virtual healthcare innovation and care delivery. PAs are a critical part of effective healthcare delivery and should be broadly represented across the healthcare system. PAVMT strives to engage PAs in understanding the development, implementation, and use of virtual health care as it pertains to access and delivery of innovative care for the modern healthcare system.

Last week the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) released three new rules impacting prescribing controlled substances via telehealth, including the long-awaited regulations regarding establishing a telehealth prescribing registration process that was first mandated by Congress back in 2008. #telehealth #prescribing #telehealthpolicy

Appointment no-show rates of approximately 20-30% are typical, and the missed appointments delay patient care and result in substantial financial losses for clinics. Congress narrowly avoided hurdling off the telehealth “cliff” Bradley previously reported on in this post with the passing of the American Relief Act, 2025 on December 21, 2024. Unfortunately, this bill merely extends the telehealth extensions enacted via the COVID-19 emergency through March 31, 2025, giving telehealth providers and patients temporary relief. #telehealth #telehealthpolicy #access

Update on Medicare Telehealth Federal Coverage Status: For those worried about the telehealth coverage for patients post Dec 31, 2024 (when current policy for most telehealth benefit coverage is set to expire), the latest news is to see Congress approve a healthcare package deal before the end of this weekend before the government funding is at risk of ceasing (Dec. 20th). Latest deal package would include: 2 year extension on: commercially insured high deductible plan pre-telehealth coverage, Medicare telehealth coverage expanding originating site and geographic flexibilities and increased provider types able to bill. 5 year extension on Hospital-At-Home waiver program. Recover 2.5% of the 2.8% physician fee rate cut that occurred in November for the next year. Lawmakers reached a deal Saturday evening to extend expiring healthcare programs, lobbyists close to the issue said. The package, floated Friday, is more robust than lobbyists expected. The extensions in the package won't be final until the House and Senate vote on the package this week. The healthcare package includes a 2.5% payment boost for Medicare physicians for one year. The bump would counteract the 2.8% pay cut finalized in the Medicare physician fee schedule in November. In a surprise win for commercially insured patients, the package includes a two-year extension of pre-deductible telehealth coverage for high deductible health plans linked to health savings accounts. In a version of the package circulated Friday morning, high deductible telehealth coverage was only extended for one year. As expected, the final package also includes a two-year extension of Medicare telehealth flexibilities like expanding geographic and originating sites and allowing more provider types to bill for telehealth visits. #telehealth #telehealthpolicy #access
