Recently, our Marketing Manager, Heide Lindgren, visited one of our remarkable partner workshops in Denver, CO that provides life-changing opportunities to women who have faced chronic unemployment due to challenging pasts. Through job and life skills training—including computer and financial literacy, self-defense, wellness, and support with job applications and interview prep— Women's Bean Project provides a pathway for women to reclaim their futures. Through just their orders of custom luggage tags, one valued client of ours, Geographic Expeditions (GeoEx) has created over 3000 of work for deserving women in Rwanda with our partner, Dokmai Rwanda . These women learn technical skills that can broaden opportunities for them and create pathways forward to brighter futures through dignified work. The gifts created through our partnership with Dokmai include colorful and unique fabrics like batik and kitenge and they even work with a leather alternative made from pineapple fibers for those who value sustainability or lead with vegan values. As Bernadette Umunyana says in our interview below, when she started the company she noticed most bags were lined with boring colors or none at all...so she decided she wanted to spice things up and add "A touch of Africa!"
