  • 🔍 Revolutionizing MEP Site Surveys with AI-Driven Reporting! 🔍 In this video, we dive into an innovative approach to site surveys. As we transition a former pool area into a gym, our team leverages cutting-edge AI to evaluate the MEP systems. Here's how it works: 📸 We capture detailed data, including photos and videos, directly on-site.   🚀 This information is instantly uploaded and processed in real-time, with AI generating comprehensive reports before we even leave the location!   🧠 These AI-powered insights allow for detailed queries—giving our team and clients access to essential data anytime, from anywhere. This technology streamlines workflows and communication. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to push the boundaries of MEP engineering! 👷♂️ Curious about how this can benefit your projects? • 🏗️ Designing Ceiling Spaces: Why Planning for Ductwork Matters 🏗️ Today, Kenneth Shultz, PE from our team shares an important reminder for architects and designers: When planning ceiling spaces, don’t forget to account for everything that will coexist with your ductwork. Here’s what we often see: You’re told there’s enough space between the ceiling and the deck for your systems. But in reality, space gets quickly consumed by: 🔸 Ceiling grid structures 🔸 Troffer lights (4–6 inches!) 🔸 Electrical conduit (EMT) 🔸 And, of course, duct insulation, hangers, and fittings With multiple disciplines sharing the same space, the expectation for ductwork to fit neatly into a tight ceiling cavity often isn’t realistic. This is why we advocate for proper construction tolerances—because the reality of installation is your best protection against costly change orders later. 🚧 Key takeaway: Plan ahead, communicate across disciplines, and allow for flexibility in ceiling heights to avoid surprises during construction. Have you encountered challenges like this? Let us know how you’ve handled them! #MEPEngineering #HVACDesign #ConstructionTolerances #BuildingSystems 💼✨

  • 💡 Did you know the NEC permits up to six grouped service disconnects? Carter Huddleston, PE, from our team explains how, instead of using a single large disconnect, you can split it into multiple smaller disconnects—a fully compliant solution for larger service sizes. ✅ Benefits: Shorter lead times, more readily available equipment Avoid expensive features like ERMS 🔺Cons: Takes up more physical space Creative design, compliant solutions. How are you optimizing your service disconnects? #MEPEngineering #ElectricalDesign #BuildingSystems #Innovation 💼✨

  • Yesterday, the PermitZIP team was on-site conducting a survey of an existing office building that's set to begin its transformation into a multifamily residential space. 👷♂️👷♀️ This building was a fantastic example of thoughtful design meeting future adaptability. With stacked duct chases and electrical rooms aligned floor-to-floor, it provides an ideal foundation for seamlessly planning and routing new infrastructure for its residential conversion. ⚡💨 At PermitZIP, we love being part of projects like this—helping reimagine spaces and bring new life to existing buildings. 🛠️✨ 💡 How do you see adaptive reuse projects like this shaping the future of our cities? • Today, Kenneth Shultz, PE from our team walks us through an important consideration for HVAC system design: ensuring your indoor units are easy to access for maintenance and long-term reliability. Placing HVAC units in easily accessible spaces, like a dedicated closet, rather than above the ceiling, can make a significant difference in the system's performance and the building's longevity. Here’s why this matters: 🔧 Ease of Maintenance: Routine upkeep is much simpler (and more likely!) when the units are easy to reach. 💧 Prevent Damage: Problems like leaks or wear and tear are spotted sooner, helping you avoid costly repairs. 🏢 Building Longevity: Thoughtful design supports a more efficient, long-lasting system. As Kenny reminds us, out of sight shouldn’t mean out of mind! A small design adjustment today can save time, money, and stress tomorrow. 👉 Have questions about best practices in MEP design?
