About us

The Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC), representing innovators, scientists, patients, providers and payers, promotes the understanding and adoption of personalized medicine concepts, services and products to benefit patients and the health system. Personalized medicine is an evolving field in which physicians use diagnostic tests to determine which medical treatments will work best for each patient. By combining the data from those tests with an individual’s medical history, circumstances and values, health care providers can develop targeted treatment and prevention plans. Recognizing that a paradigm shift in medicine will not happen just because the science suggests it should, the Coalition spearheads a robust portfolio of activities in education and advocacy, including the Annual Personalized Medicine Conference at Harvard Medical School.

  • Thank you for joining us!

Last week, at the Personalized Medicine Coalition conference in Boston, I had the pleasure of sitting down with FORTUNE’s former editor-in-chief Clifton Leaf for an in-depth conversation about Illumina, #genomics, and the hinge point we’re at in bringing the benefits of personalized medicine to more patients. It was clear from our discussion and the conversations with other attendees that followed that we must work together – as an aligned ecosystem – to help healthcare systems, providers, and payors keep pace with the rapid advances happening in science and medicine. Read more below about our role as an industry leader and how it goes well beyond the technology we develop in our labs.  https://lnkd.in/dgKE6QEq #PMC2024 #PersonalizedMedicine #FutureOfMedicine

  • As the 18th Annual Personalized Medicine Conference comes to a close, we reflect on the journey we embarked on over the last 20+ years. From the early days of understanding genetic markers to the current advancements in AI, diagnostics, and healthcare delivery, the progress in personalized medicine has truly transformed the landscape for research, drug development and healthcare, making treatments more precise, effective, and individualized. We've seen the development of targeted therapies that have not only improved patient outcomes but have also paved the way for a future where healthcare is tailored to the unique needs of each patient. But the gap between what is scientifically possible and what is clinically practiced remains far too large. As we look to the future, let’s continue to collaborate, innovate, and find ways to bring the benefits of personalized medicine to more patients. Together, we can achieve a future where personalized medicine is not just a vision, but a reality for all. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this conference. Your dedication and passion are what make these advances possible. We look forward to continuing this dialogue and pioneering the new approaches, pathways and collaborations needed to foster continued progress in the field. We will see you at next year’s Personalized Medicine Conference – November 13-14, 2025 –in Dana Point, California. #PMC2024 #PersonalizedMedicine #FutureOfMedicine #PMC2025

  • It was an inspiring morning at the Personalized Medicine Conference where we took a deeper dive into the incredible progress made since the sequencing of the human genome 20 years ago and today’s ongoing efforts to apply scientific advances in the field. One example is the work underway to develop blood-based cancer screening tools which hold the promise to detect cancers before symptoms appear. The collaboration between GRAIL and Point32Health underscores the critical role partnerships play in piloting and evaluating innovative tools to help shape a pathway to deliver these advances to patients. Foundational to continued progress is sustained leadership in navigating the dynamic scientific, economic, and political landscapes both in Washington, D.C. and globally. As an emergency medicine physician, Michael Ybarra, MD, Chief Medical Officer at PhRMA, has seen first hand how personalized treatments for cystic fibrosis and sickle cell anemia have revolutionized care for patients living with these diseases. He emphasized the importance of adaptive strategies and collaborative efforts to drive R&D forward. These discussions are pivotal as we continue to push the boundaries of personalized medicine, aiming for a future where healthcare is tailored to each individual's unique genetic makeup. #PMC2024 #PersonalizedMedicine #HealthcareInnovation #CancerScreening

  • Closing out Day 1 with panelists delving into the transformative potential of AI in healthcare and personalized medicine, including: ▪ Pattern Recognition: How AI is recognizing patterns that often go unnoticed by physicians, solving critical issues in diagnostics, pathology and other areas of practice. ▪ Efficiency Enhancements: AI is performing tasks that humans could only achieve if time, experts, and resources were limitless. ▪ New AI Models: By having foundational models trained in the language of biology, we can drive innovation in silico. ▪ Generative AI: How it is accelerating the ability to scale and extract valuable insights, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in personalized medicine. Thank you to all participants and speakers who contributed to a successful first day of the Personalized Medicine Conference. Day 2 promises a continuation of engaging discussions, focusing on the systemic response to personalized medicine adoption and implementation. #PMC2024 #PersonalizedMedicine #HealthcareInnovation

  • It’s with great honor and pride that we recognize Emily Kramer-Golinkoff, Co-Founder of Emily's Entourage, as the recipient of this year’s Annual Award for Leadership in Personalized Medicine. This accolade is presented to individuals whose remarkable contributions in science, business, policy, and advocacy have driven the limits of personalized medicine.   Emily has made significant strides in the field of cystic fibrosis (CF), particularly focusing on rare nonsense mutations. Diagnosed with a rare mutation of CF herself, Emily has used her personal experience to drive groundbreaking research and advocacy. Through Emily's Entourage, she has accelerated the development of life-saving treatments by raising millions of dollars and fostering collaborations with top researchers, pharmaceutical companies, and the CF community.   Genevieve Mack accepted the award on behalf of Emily from Brian Munroe, PMC Founder & Board Member, recognizing Emily's relentless efforts to transform the landscape of CF research and her dedication to finding a cure for all CF patients, especially those with rare mutations. This honor underscores her impact on advancing personalized treatments and improving the lives of countless individuals living with CF.   Congratulations once again to Emily on this well-deserved honor!   #PMC2024 #PersonalizedMedicine
