PH2OTOGEN
Renewable Energy Power Generation
Developing scalable and sustainable solar hydrogen technology
About us
With the increase of CO2 emissions causing climate change, it's imperative to find solutions that can bring green hydrogen to market quickly. PH2OTOGEN is aiming to develop a scalable photocatalytic flow reactor that produces green hydrogen, along with value-added oxidation products that can generate revenue for the overall system. The project is supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and its members.

𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗔 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 One of the key challenges in photocatalytic water splitting is the separation of the two products, hydrogen and oxygen. (Photo)electrochemical systems can use a membrane to separate the (photo)anode and (photo)cathode to have each gas evolve in separate compartments, however, this isn’t possible in a typical photocatalyst sheet system due to the integrated nature of the design. This adds cost for the gas separation process and also raises safety issues as mixtures of hydrogen and oxygen have the potential to be explosive. In PH2OTOGEN we tackle this by promoting an alternative oxidation reaction to form 1,3 dihydroxyacetone from glycerol, in parallel with hydrogen production. The safe resulting product mixture can be easily separated as one is an oil and the other a gas. 👉 Over the coming weeks, we’ll share more about how PH2OTOGEN technology is addressing the challenges of hashta #hydrogenproduction.
