The pioneering city-wide high school competition championing community service projects by Philly's promising students!
About us
Who We Are: The Philly Service Award is the pioneering city-wide high school competition focused on championing community service projects led by Philadelphia's promising students. We believe in the power of our youth and the transformative change they can bring to their neighborhoods. What We Are Doing: The Philly Service Award creates large-scale change for Philadelphia through our community service competition. We supply each participating school with a grant to fund, develop, and execute community service projects to improve the city. In addition to improving their communities, students’ projects are eligible to earn additional funding for their schools through our awards program. Participating faculty also benefit through our wish-list fulfillment program, earning up to $1,000 for non-project-related supplies to serve their classrooms. This initiative drives over 100 student-inspired and executed city-wide projects annually, bringing measurable improvements to the lives of Philadelphians. Why We Are Doing This: Philadelphia is not just a city; it's a community of potential and promise. Our students and faculty embody this promise and potential, and we aim to uplift their shared aspirations to cultivate and enhance their communities. By investing in our youth and their visions, we disrupt the prevailing narrative of negativity and spotlight positive action. The Philly Service Award is a testament to what's possible when we trust and equip our students to be the drivers of change in Philadelphia.

We're thrilled to announce William L. Sayre High School's participation in this year's #PhillyServiceAward! The students organized a blood drive on December 5th with the American Red Cross. Their efforts included engaging students, faculty, staff, and the community to help address the urgent demand for blood donations. They gave donors small incentive packages and raffle items to encourage participation and ease donation fears. The results are inspiring: 44 signups led to 21 units collected—16 from first-time donors—and 13 units for the Sickle Cell Program. Way to go, William L. Sayre High School! Your dedication truly makes a difference!

Roxborough High School is back for year 2 of the #PhillyServiceAward, and the students are hard at work on their project "Rox Sox for the Homeless." This initiative provides essential items like socks, diapers, and feminine products to local family shelters, addressing critical gaps in necessities for those experiencing homelessness or transitioning between homes. Last year's "Benches for Beautification" project left a positive mark by enhancing the school environment by providing benches for the students and residents waiting for the bus. We can't wait to see how Roxborough High School will continue to #MakeaBetterPhilly!

School Shout Out! We're excited to welcome back Central High School for year two of the #PhillyServiceAward! Last year, their incredible project, "Revitalizing with Green," transformed barren lots into flourishing community gardens. They tackled food insecurity by offering fresh produce, hosting workshops, creating safe recreational spaces, and boosting community safety! Their efforts won 1st place in The People's Choice Awards and earned a remarkable $20,000 prize for their school. This year, their "Mathematicians in the Making" project is an after-school program where high schoolers tutor elementary students in math. With homework help, interactive games, and lessons on math fundamentals, this initiative aims to elevate PSSA Math Scores and enhance students' perspectives on mathematics. Kudos to Central High School for continuing to #MakeaBetterPhilly!

These bags will be used to deliver Thanksgiving meal supplies to over 100 families who stayed with us this year and live within 75 miles of RMHC Philly. The Philly Service Award supports Philadelphia high schools with community service grants, empowering students to transform their neighborhoods. Thank you for making a difference!

Shout out to Boys' Latin of Philadelphia for returning for year two of the #PhillyServiceAward! Last year's "Hands-On Philadelphia" project equipped students, families, and school staff with hands-only CPR training. Their success earned them second place in The Young Entrepreneurs Award, which brought a $5,000 prize to their school! This year's project, "Mental Stability Kits," addresses the mental health concerns affecting adolescents in Philadelphia; these kits will provide tools for managing anxiety and stress, along with emergency contact information for suicide prevention and opioid situations. We're excited to see how Boys' Latin of Philadelphia continues to make an impactful difference.
