This week, we were thrilled to break ground on Tacoma Rescue Mission's Good Neighbor Village in Spanaway, which will provide 285 units of permanent housing and care to Pierce County’s chronically homeless neighbors. The Good Neighbor Village will restore dignity, purpose, and stability to struggling individuals in a safe, supportive, and healing community. Additional services will be provided to residents, including health and dental care, mental health counseling, and addiction treatment. Thanks to many community partners for making this happen, including the City of Lakewood, Washington. This is a proven solution for bringing individuals out of homelessness and is modeled after the Community First! Village in Austin, Texas. We encourage you to learn more about this project by visiting PierceCountyWA.gov/Village.

The Pierce County Community Development Corporation is awarding $750,000 to a resident-owned cooperative for the purchase of Olga Dor Court, a Mobile Home Community (MHC) for seniors aged 55 years or older in Parkland. Olga Dor Court residents were notified earlier this year that the property owner intended to sell the community, which is a five-acre, 100%-occupied MHC consisting of 48 manufactured housing pads and a single-family residence. With the assistance of the ROC Northwest program at the Northwest Cooperative Development Center, a nonprofit specializing in cooperative development, they formed a resident-owned cooperative to purchase the property to continue its use as affordable housing. Learn more about what Pierce County is doing in the affordable housing space by visiting www.PierceCountyWA.gov/AH.
